Sorry if this is necromancy, but just to add my 2 cents: I've found women respect me more if I don't pay for stuff for them. If I'm in a relationship it's different (I think it's only decent to pay her meals/outing costs every now and then, and sometimes I'd buy her small gifts without prompting just to express affection. Ideally she'd also be doing the same for me).
But my personal rule is that if any girl wants me to buy her material stuff as an actual part of our relationship, she's a waste of my time and attention. I don't care if she's a gorgeous model, that doesn't mean she can just turn me into a meal ticket. If you're just a dollar sign to someone, you're not going to get their respect.
IMO once you start buying stuff just to keep a girl hanging out with you, you start becoming like those basement dwelling guys that spend all their money buying random camgirls they'll never meet s**t because they're desperately horny. Even if you have sex with her, it's not you she's screwing, it's your wallet.
If a hot girl thinks you're a meal ticket and you put your foot down and say "Halves?" she knows you're not a cash cow. If she's a genuine money leech she'll move on to a dumb guy with a fat wallet (no loss to you). If she's a cool girl who was just trying it on because she knows she's hot, she'll probably be impressed by your balls and like the fact you're not trying to buy her.
