If you provide a link where motor trend or car and driver say there is a 5th and 6th gen camaro I will be happy to look at it.

Also you say 4th gen started in 1987 and ended in 1992. What is the difference between a 3rd gen and a 4th gen in your categories. They are exactly the same camaro from 1982-1992
I was wrong, 1st gen was 67-69, 2nd gen was 70-80, 80-92 which were the oil crisis cars that sold like sh*t so they didn't change much, then they got there heads out of there asses for 93, then in 97 they had the 30th aniversery edition, then 98 they changed the front and rear enough to make the gen 6 camaro.

Ok I found one link from a reputable magazine in America. Popular Hot Rodding Magazine has an article about what they would picture the 5th gen camaro to look like (since the 4th gen ended in 2002). Read the article and they make mention of this concept car as an idea of what the 5th generation camaro could look like.

Listen, Its like arguing what stages means, no one knows for sure and you can never convince anyone otherwise. All I know is that GM considers the 98+ different then the 97- and you can tell they are different just by looking at them.

They are different enough to notice the changed. Sorry it wasn't a huge change from the gen 3 (or 2 in your case), but a change is a change.

I know from 1997 to 1998 there was a change. There was a different front end, interior and engine but they didnt consider it a new generation

Whether or not everyone agrees, there has been 6 distict camaro styles. That to me defines 6 generations.

Whatever floats your boat though.

Alright so the official Generation was 4 but it was the 6th gen.

Didn't 98 mark the transition from the LT1 to the LS1? or was that like 95ish.

If it was 98 that is a huge transition in itself.

The 98 was the first year of the LS1 for the fbody. The corvette got it in 1997. Hope this helps.

By front fascia you must mean, hood, bumper, lights, quarter panels, sides, and read end. Then yes "Only" the from fascia changed.

If you're going to buy a car that's older than you are, the straight-6 / manaul transmission BMW's built in the 80's run forever.

Notice how many of them you see still driving around in the Bay Area?
Now you know why.

For 2,800, you can find a late 80's 325i or is - those cars are pretty sweet and put out decent power.

A late 80's 5-series can be had for around the same price.

I've had both an 87 535i and an 86 325es and they were solid, tight nice running cars that were cheap to run.
I'd love to find a late - 80's M5, but don't have the cash or the room right now.

Avoid the 6 and 7 series.

Contrary to popular belief, certain model BMW's run forever and cost very little to maintain. These cars are excellent values.

Plus, you have the prestige of driving a BMW and they are fun cars to drive.

Just be sure to avoid the 6 & 7 series and any 3 & 5 series with an auto trans.

Also, be sure to buy a car that has service records and has had the timing belt done recently, otherwise, you need to factor the replacement cost of the timing belt into the purchase price.

Here's a few example's of them in your price range:

http://www.craigslist.org/sby/car/50874286.html

Note: A couple of the cars above were Auto trans, but they were just posted for an example of the type of car you can get in your price range.

Again, these cars easily go 250K and beyond.

No just the front of the car including hood. I have several friends with LT1's and my sides, quarter panels, window set up and bumper are identical. The bumper got changed to the latest one in 1997 (with the yellow turn signals)

here is another link. scroll down to 4th gen and it talks breifly about the differences between the 1997 model and the 98+ model

Vincent... seriously. Both Delicious and I own F-bodies. We know what we're talking about. No hardcore GM person, let alone an F-body fanatic would ever refer to a 98+ Camaro as a 6th gen.

The link he posted on there is dead on. Read up.
