When I need to drink cheap or if someone is buying me a drink I usually go for vodka soda and lime, vodka tends to be the cheapest spirit, soda is the cheapest mixer, and the lime cordial (you could swap it for blackcurrant) makes it sweet.
I don't like beer either, not sweet enough.

So what's a good way to pre-drink?

Would it make sense to have a couple of shots then drive 20 min to a club?
Oh man... I don't know drunk driving regulations in usa, but your answer is no ;)
Of course since you're driving there it looks like you're driving home after drinking too...

Heh, no way I'd drive drunk.

What makes the most sense is to have a drink in my car after I've arrived. I also need to make sure that I'm sober enough to drive home.

Hide a flask in the car. Take a few swigs and be on your way.
At the bar, order well drinks. Well drinks are the cheaper liquor.
And find a bartender you click with, and tip him well. Over time he/she will make your drinks strong. Great for when you're getting a drink with a girl.

Create self-fulfilling prophecies. Always assume the positive. Assume she likes you. Assume she wants to talk to you. Assume she wants to go out with you. When you think positive, positive things happen.

see you don't want to go for cheap. you want to go for efficent lol.

i would rather order 1 7 dollar drink that will get to the point than to order 4 ****ty drinks that cost 5 dollars

my go do drink when i want to get there is a red death which is amaretto, lime juice, OJ, gin, southern comfort, triple Sec, vodka

Used to do this when I was underage. You can typically buy small little 1 shot bottles at the liquor store for a couple bucks. Just order a coke and pour them in. I don't recommend appearing this cheap when your out with a woman though.
when I was single and i was going clubbing, i'd always run to the liquor store and get the smallest thing they have of 100% Smirnoff vodka, in the dark blue label lol, it's like 4.75. but you drink it straight and you're about done for the night lol. at least i was. that way i have my buzz on before i got to the club and i don't spend 30 dollars trying to get one.

i never liked the idea of spending 20-30 dollars a night on drinking that's so ****ing stupid.

Best ways to reduce your drinking expense at bars when out meeting women, and when you are out drinking, it's more about getting a good pour than about the price of the drink, but much over $7 a straight 1.5 pour drink today in the U.S. (call brand) and you need to question if you are truly getting some value from the place in exchange for being ripped off on the liquor:

1. Separate your party time from your meeting women time. Different nights even, stay sober when meeting women, not even that buzzed. Posture, balance, senses, clear eyes, breath, etc., all are important in meeting and getting women attracted. Buzz dulls them all. Drink is just an accessory during meeting women time and you can even not have one and use that to your advantage. In fact, a drink is a crutch when socializing. Learn to socialize with both hands empty.

2. Go to the same places over and over, not all over town to a place twice a year. Know the bartenders and all the staff. Boosts your social value, makes you look important. Never go into a place with your hands in your pockets and looking down or looking around like a chump. Go in there smiling with force because YOU BELONG THERE, THIS IS MY PLACE! You are the man who is going to liven up the night of everyone in that place, everyone has been waiting for you to get there. Tip well, be a person of good cheer who is known as a regular, and get lots of free liquor and good pours. Be "some dude" coming in the door and scoping the place out like he's never been there, pay retail and get the short pour.

3. Don't buy well brand, look at the shelf and get the thing you like that's nearly empty. You will often get a whole double pour this way or even a free drink if what's left in the bottle doesn't make a whole pour. Drink drinks with one or no mixers, harder to stiff you that way. Sexist comment - Male bartenders pour more generously than female, who are more prone to be by the book on the pour. Some exceptions, but generally true. You will get better pours at less busy bars generally and bars where there are fewer people waiting. When you want to drink, go to places where there are professional bartenders (lifers who work in serious money places and restaurants and have for years, not fern bars) whom you have gotten to know. Get to know wine and liquor generally, be a good customer who doesn't get drunk, stay around forever, or ever cause problems, keep up with brands, and when it's not that busy, you will get TONS of free drinks. "Have you tried this? try this." Have had bartenders line up five full FREE shots of liquor for me and my friend/friends to "try" on many many occasions. Having a good looking woman as a wing and getting there early will also get you extra drinks via osmosis. LOL.

If you're looking for cheapness, ask about drink specials or happy hour specials. A good rule of thumb: domestic beer is always cheaper....maybe the cheapest of anything you'll find at a bar. Otherwise, as far as liquor drinks, if you just ask for rail liquors (or house liquors) & mixers, that'll probably be your best bet. Like a rum & coke w/ whatever their house rum is.
