Just watched all 3. Looks like you really got winded in the 2nd round, but then you said that it was the knee to the nuts. What kind of groin protection were you wearing?

I recently listend to the interview of David Deangelo with Tim Ferris. The latter says some interesting things about becoming a better fighter, even joining the mma and in how it makes you a better man for it. Eliminates much of your everyday bullsh1t fear.
What are your experiences with this. How has mma fighting helped you in everyday life?

Nice fight btw. Takes guts imho.
You lost because of lack of experience. The knee in the nuts and the mouthpiece make a huge difference. You should have asked time for the knee. And work on the stamina earlier before the fight.

A place where dreams become reality
i am going to train mma as well, but not intending to fight pro, just as a hobby. anyway, always make sure you got cardio for 6 rounds if you are fighting for 3 rounds. getting hit takes some gas out of you. try talking to your trainers for a conditioning program, seems like you really need one. that way you don't go into the fight and worry about gas-ing out.

your standup doesn't look good. why's your neck slouching?

i think you're wasting more energy trying to take this guy down. work for the double underhooks and leg trips. throw some punches, kicks, then shoot in for the takedown. you're telegraphing your takedowns i guess, he's going to defend it easy.

he has the better standup in that fight, you were just covering up and pushing him away alot. i think for your standup you should work more on footwork, be on your toes as much as possible, stay active. he steps in to hit you, disengage, move back instead of taking the hit with your elbows. i highly suggest you watch Lyoto Machida's fights. his footwork is a very good example.

and of course, to do that you have to have good cardio. so cardio is so important!

anyway, i respect you for fighting out there, and wish you all the best.

Thanks guys.

My standup is just awkward-looking...ok, maybe genuinely awkward, I agree. Other than the leg kicks that I can land without being in punching range, I just give up on striking from standing. I really, really hate getting punched in the face, so I just cover up all the time. It's far from optimal, but oh well. My striking on the ground is pretty good.

Obviously part of it is physical. I am in better shape than when I was a high school wrestler, even though I am now twice as old. Fighting does not make you big, but it does make you cut. One of our guys has been at Marine Corp boot camp for the past three months, and he was in horrible shape compared to when he left. He ended up losing in the first round, said he felt a lot worse physically than when he left for boot camp.

Mentally...well if I ever get into a street fight I am just going to skip straight to the knees to the crotch part. Those hurt :)

My cornerman also cornered several of our other guys. He said that no matter what color anyone's eyes were, all he saw were giant black pupils. It's something about the body's fight-or-flight response. In our modern world, we don't have to deal with situations very often where all of our survival mechanisms kick in. Sometimes, when they do, people act erratically and do things that surprise even themselves. It is good to begin learning to have a handle on how I react in a crisis. That is something that is hard to practice.

Another mental note, the longer you train in a fighting sport, the more you will find yourself having less and less sympathy for anyone else. My trainer has been doing combat sports for 30 years, and he is one unsympathetic s.o.b. - I find that the more I do this, the less I sympathize with most peoples' problems. When I hear people complain these days, I am often thinking, "suck it up, you fvcking pvssy."

I did a couple of rounds with a friend, friendly fighting last week. It got pretty serious. After it, I didn't care for 90% of my problems.

All I was thinking is that I better not let him submit me next time.

This made my day, my opponent posted a pic to his myspace of his leg with the caption, "swelling has gone down some, bruising setting in:"

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x252/dotheopposite/hisLeg.jpg

I forgot to mention that he is about the nicest guy in the world and we are buddies now. He was a class act throughout the fight as well, touching gloves before every round, helping me up between rounds, raising my hand after he had won the decision. I consider him a friend and I would even fight for him as I would any friend, which is intensely ironic having just fought against him.

But dammit I am glad I hurt him. My own leg is barely bruised at all. I did not even know thigh bruises could swell.

It was Muay Thai shin kicks that did it. I was trying. My trainer studied some Muay Thai in Thailand when he was in the military. I love those leg kicks because I can stand out of punching range and still land them. He told a mutual friend of ours right after the fight, "I ate one too many of them leg kicks."

They say getting a Muay Thai shin kick to the head is the equivalent of being thwacked in the head by a baseball bat.

I'm not surprised. I have a friend in the Marines and he told me all you do in boot camp is pull ups, push ups, and slow low-intensity distance running, which is not going to prepare you very well for a short, high-intensity MMA fight.

Do you know anything about Ross Enamait's stuff? If not, you might want to check it out. Awesome conditioning routines and ideas.

That's pretty cool that you are in the cage mad props, I am thinking about getting into it but first I am looking into disciplines to learn (Karate,Jui,Tae and the like) since I am real young still 20 and so IF and WHEN I do get into the ring at least I know lots more options.

But what I think you should do is throw more knees to the abs of the other guy, most of the time you clinched you never picked up your legs....the knees are extremely strong and hurt a hell of a lot ...that's why you see mma fighters hit with knees and elbows (Pure bone) .

Good luck man...maybe some time we can fight......hopefully.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.
