Didn't really realize it until someone mentioned tall guy body language in another thread , but its really hard for me to stop crossing my arms , I guess its become like a comfort zone for me.

Im 6'5 and have very long arms ,and half the time I feel like there in the way , so Ive gotten used to keeping them crossed, and half the time I wont even notice im doing it

I know its bad body language , but I really would like to find some other way to use my arms I guess

One more thing ive noticed I do is I will on occasion shift my weight to one leg , and lock that knee and have the other leg kinda bent ,sometimes ill also put my hands on my hips while I do this

I feel like these are all bad body language , but I feel like im going to need something to replace them with if im ever going to end it

Leaning on one leg is a postural problem that will come back to bite you with uneven musculature and muscle aches. Learn the traditional military rest postures and use them.

You need to wear a regular man's sport jacket / blazer so you can button and unbutton it as you sit and rise, put a hand in the slacks pocket from time to time, take out your handkerchief and clean your glasses, and look good just standing there holding your beverage.

Oh yeah. Almost forgot. Do not stand there and do the loner thing with your smart phone. Check your messages for real, don't read the news or play angry birds.

Your funny ;)

For a 6.5 giant, your sure thinking "feminine" ;)

Why worry????

Just stare at them, then your presence should make them less inclined to even look at you and they wont notice ;)
Im not thinking feminine , these are just traits if picked up over years of being tall and slouching

and not sure if your serious about the second part

by military rest postures I assume you mean the "at ease" stance ?

and i was always under the impression that hands in the pockets is a bad sign , similar to crossing your arms

Just keep your hands on your hips, or grab your belt, or the belt holder on your jeans. That's what I do.. Maybe grab something on your coat, if my hands aren't dangling I always grab onto something i"m wearing like that. It's kind of annoying to just let them hang cuz I'm 6 ft but have a 6'3 wingpsan so my arms are long as fvck I can relate to you. Whenever someone crosses their arms it's usually a defensive or reassuring sign. Try think more positive thoughts.

Watch what George Clooney does with his hands in the Oceans series.

I don't think folding your arms is a problem.

I fold my arms all the time. Simply folding your arms and maybe stroking your chin gives the impression: "let me see what this person has to say and evaluate it carefully".

You don't have to be 100% open to everyone all the time. Closing off your body language, if you are attractive, could help increase attraction.

If you're shy though I'd say it's bad body language. For a confident person it would simply make you look like you critically evaluate people.

When you approach a girl for example and you're qualifying yourself, she might have her arms crossed.

Also I saw a Tyler Durden seminar where he explained that no matter HOW ****ty your body language might be, if your attitude is positive, your body language won't matter.

Leaning on one leg though, I think that IS a problem, because asymmetry indicates a weak frame/body.

This is kind of what I was thinking. I know folding your arms or having your hands in your pockets is considered bad body language, but I can't help but wonder is this something that really matters? Do people really go around saying "Oh no, that guy has his arms folded, he's closed off, I better not talk to him"?

I mean if you're comfortable with your arms folded isn't that going to come through? Isn't the other person going to feel that you're comfortable? And if you are in a good body position but uncomfortable with it, isn't that going to come through also?

I read some thing by MeHow which said that the best position for pickup is standing with your palms outward toward the person you're talking to, like a religious icon. That's supposed to say that you are giving, as in giving value instead of taking it. But if that isn't the most unnatural looking pose, I don't know what is.
