Well ive been trying to plug this algebra problem in for hours.
College Algebra... we have to use this thing online called ILRN to do our homework. So we HAVE to get it 100 percent right or it doesnt accept.

Well im pretty ****ing sure im doing it right. but it keeps saying wrong when i put the answer in, someone please help!! here is the problem:

Use your calculator to find the minimum value of the quadratic function below, correct to two decimal places.

f (x) = x 2 + 6.45x + 5.93

Enter your answer in the form f (a) = b.

I got x=-3.191489 and y=-4.469502 for the minimum

HELP!!

the min is x = -3.224992 y = -4.470625

and max = infinity

i'll let you do the rounding, cause you know how to do that, right..?

i dont want to sounds like an ass, but it took me like 5seconds to find that one out with my calc.

lol

Do they give you a range for x? Are they asking for local min within that range or abosolute min?

if not, x = -3.22 is y = -4.47 is CORRECT. Email whoever is reposible for that **** and tell them about your problem.

It doesn't matter how good-looking you are, how romantic you are, how funny you are... or anything else. If she doesn't have something INVESTED in you and the relationship, preferably quite a LOT invested, she'll dump you, without even the slightest hesitation, as soon as someone a little more "interesting" comes along.

I was kinda (understatement) pissed.

Next time you need the max/min of a function, and you can't get it on your calculator...(this is the process as far as I recall, last math class was about a year ago)

Take derivative, reduce the derivative into brackets, set it equal to zero. Find the values of x that will make each bracket equal to zero (one or more values). Evaluate the original expression at said x-values, and also the maximum and minimum x-values of the interval you're interested in.

Rather drawn-out, but hey, it'll help if you screw up your calculator on a test.
