man I applied to ****in Target,Kohls, chucky cheeses, papa johns, as well as a few places. I was workin at Lowes as a truck unloader for $8.51/hr but I quit once school was over thinking I'd be leaving soon for the Air Force. I had a job in retail for a year and on the appilcations I put that I could work anytime but Target & Kohls still didnt call-they even had big Now Hiring Signs up. WTF?

I feel your pain brother. I was in the same situation a year and a half ago. I aplied to like 20 places and only got a job due to knowing someone working in that place. That made me realize how important connections are when it comes to getting jobs sometimes.

What type of job experience do you have?

If none or very little, you're going to have to start where pretty much every does, in the Fast Food or Restaraunt industry.

Hell, Construction laborers (non-union) are getting up to $15.00 per hour around here (SF Bay Area) and they mostly just are go-fers who do the heavy lifting and grunt work for the skilled tradesman.

But daMN kmart is like the same ****in thing as Target so I really don't get why they didn't even call me.
Does calling the place after you turn in your application help any??

If you're jumping from job to job every 3 months, you're going to be tough to hire.

If you're an employer, would you spend time and money training someone with that kind of track record?

So if you dont list a place you've worked at will they find it on like a background check or something?

Most likely, an employer will check with the Employment Dept. to see where you worked, how long, wages etc...

They will also check for criminal record, and some employers won't hire you if you have a bad credit history.

Then there's the drug testing...

So if I don't list all the places I've worked they'll find out anyways? Any tips that may help me out in finding a job? So how about calling a few days after I apply?

heres what got me a job once...
when i filled out the application i asked to speak to the manager.
i put the application in his hand and said "i can start right now, im dressed and ready."

if you put the application in a managers hand, you have a chance to talk to them personally and show them you are ready to work. if you turn it in to whomever is behind the counter, it might take days to get looked at.

if you are dressed in whatever that place wears and they are that short handed they might use you, or at least run your background check that day.

be honest, i was working at lowes and liked it and i joined the military. i left thinking i was leaving for bootcamp on a particular date, i didnt want to leave them shorthanded , however my bootcamp date was set back. if i would have know this, i would have stayed at lowes. i dont like to change jobs when i have a good one. i am suppose to leave on x day and if you put me to work in the mean time, i promise to give you a written two week notice before i leave so that you wont be short handed.

my cousin worked at chucke cheese. he dressed as the mouse and came out and made the kids happy. tell them you would love to dress up and act silly. sure the suit is hot but you take it off in between sets and the pizza rocks.

dude, It's just like with women.....a numbers game

I applied to over 25 jobs when the summer started. Getting a job is a job in itself, it requires persistance. Right now I got 2 part time jobs and when I told them how many places I applied to their jaws dropped. Make an appointment to fill out 5 applications a day. After about a week you should get at least 1 job calling you back.

Yea I've been appliying to pretty much every place I can think of around here(except fast food).
I just applied at the Charles Town Races and Quadgraphics. PLus I've been filling out applications to a ****load of places online. My goal right now is to have a job by the end of the week.
