Can doing just 40-50 crunches each day produce decent results?

welcome to my world
i'm pretty sure the OP's question was answered, and if not, i apologize for being off tangent...

...but, has anyone here tried an ab-wheel?

in addition to being able to do a crazy number of situps, i started using an ab-wheel a while back. i definitely feel the "burn," but i'm not seeing results.

anyone else try it?

Eh?

Weighted crunches don't suck....

The muscle is at a constant stage of tension.

With situps, I found the abs become useless for the tail end of the motions...

Oh, just do hanging leg raises with a 50lb dumbbell strapped to your feet and you'll be fine.

dont even bother working out abs, jsut reduce your bodyfat and with proper form and lifting heavy they are getting enough work there.

So are you gonna do partial curls, partial squats, partial bench presses, and partial military presses for the same reason?

when im doin crunches and theres no weight/dumbells in sight heres what i always do. Everytime i go up i would hold it in for bout 20 sec then let go n do 15 normal crunches and then go up and hold it in for another 20 sec. ill keep doin this untill i cant do it anymore or i feel the satisfaction(but normaly i would do it till i cant do it anymore cus i always like pushin myself over the limit.)
The hold have the same amount of affect as doin pulses!.-

Actually, as members here have stated, partial bench presses are better than going all the way up. It's also fairly well established that the same reasong should be applied to DB curls, for example, where the bicep slacks completely at the very top of the movement.

As for squats and military presses, I feel the muscles working for the entire range of movement... certainly not the case for situps... Aside from that, the abdominals aren't actually getting anymore contraction beyond the crunch movement anyway. I always feel as if my ass is being used as leverage.

Whoever stated that needs to be kicked.

he's right, you don't need to go all the way up during bench press. the finishing end of the motion during bench press works out only your triceps. the beginning "push" works out your chest. for example, when you do push-ups, you feel that towards the end, all you do is extend your arms, which is using the triceps. sliding push ups work the chest completely. do a search for those.

Everyone's wrong. Doing 40-50 crunches a day will give you MASSIVE results, assuming you have a head that weighs one hundred pounds.

You can do 1000 crunches, but if you dont alter your diet, all you'll have are firm ab muscles under a layer of fat.
