same or not same?

I've always wondered about this

Ex: i walk to burn 100 calories (15 minutes to complete)

VS

I do intense lifting, intense cardio w/ resistance to burn 100 calories? (15 minutes to complete)

same?

Most people don't know what intense cardio is. You should be completely gassed, lungs on fire, and near total exertion. Typically it takes sprints, or wrestling. But if you do actual high-intensity cardio, then yes there are a lot of benefits to it. 4-6 hours post-workout, your body will convert even junk carbs to muscle. Most guys I knew from mma were ripped, but ate garbage. I drank a 6-pack of beer every night, and still had very low body fat. I don't know if 15 min is enough, the studies were done on wrestlers who practiced 2 hours, but there are other health benefits to high-intensity cardio as well.

My understanding is that HIT gets you more ripped without the associated muscle loss of LIT. I.e., you get that 'fast twist' look, rather than look like a skinny runner.

I do both. I do sprints sometimes in the morning, and I walk in the afternoon (mostly for my back, not really to burn calories).

You can get great benefits from doing it for 5 minutes after you lift...researchers found it created huge spikes in Growth Hormone versus people who did no HIIT after lifting. Also properly done Tabata is only 6 minutes long, but might be among the hardest things to actually accomplish in the gym.

It causes something called EPOC--Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption(same as doing fast paced lifting with short rest breaks), which dramatically increases the rate at which you burn calories and can stay elevated for 24-48 hours after one of these sessions. Essentially your body becomes "wrecked" from this type of workout and it freaks out and expends great amounts of energy to put itself "back to normal". The energy for this comes almost purely from fat stores as well as an added bonus.

That's like saying if I lose 100 pennies on the train or on the bus, which one will lose me the most money? :p

Your body reacts to stronger stimuli. Walking is a much weaker stimuli than actual lifting so you are more likely to wear and tear your body without gaining anything than when lifting.

6 minutes is enough if you do it right. Look up the studies on Tabata.
