Master Don Juan
First, I chuckled when I saw this:
Anyways, my buddy, who we'll call Skippy, won 3.2 million in the state lotto. I was at work and missed his call and on my way home got a text from him reading "If you think its a joke its not. 3.2 million buddy!" so I listened to the voicemail and apparently I missed the fifteen minute call back window where he would buy me a car.
I call him up laughing and, apparently, the whole thing is actually true. My highschool buddy just won 3.2 million after taxes and lump summing. We've been a bit out of touch since I dropped out and went to college, but still talking at least once a week and hanging out twice a month, give or take. He's on a waiting list for a Lambo, bought two of our buddies cars and offered to buy me one. That's where things get odd.
My original reaction wasn't too smooth... I immediately started talking like his financial planner, telling him to put at least 2 mil in bonds, etc. His reaction was a bit cold, and when I realized what I was doing I cut that off. He flaked out on me some, which was unusual, and wasn't calling as often. Then I called him to ask about something and we started talking and I basically told him I didn't want him to buy me a car/apartment/pornstar/whatever and that IMO money kills friendships. I thanked him for the offer and said we should hang out sometime... his reaction was alot more quiet than before, and he was confused as to why I didn't want a car. I told him if he has to throw some money my way he could toss it in my college fund and take that weight off my shoulders, and he gave me a eh whatever and the conversation died.
I've lost friends over stupider **** than money, but this just seems so... unceremonious. He's pretty much doing the same stuff, just on a larger scale (breaking into a beach house and partying the weekend became renting a beach house and leaving halfway through for no apparent reason), and his friendship with me seems to be the only thing really affected.
Just had to rant about my lost bromance. I'll call him later and see what he's up to.
So it's been a while but I figured the brilliant minds on SS would be willing to give my pointless ramble a listen. I recognize a few names, it's been a damn long time though.Welcome, dannowillbookem.
