Earthquake, tsunami, nuclear plant meltdowns -- as if the people of Japan didn't have enough to cope with, a volcano began erupting Sunday.

Hundreds of people were forced to flee when the Shinmoedake volcano on the southern island of Kyushu began spewing ash and boulders.

The explosion from the eruption could be heard miles away and an ash plume extended two miles into the sky.

Shinmoedake, one of several volcanic peaks in the Kirishima mountain range, is 950 miles from the epicenter of Friday's earthquake and scientists weren't sure if the quake triggered the eruption.

Eruptions and quakes are common in Japan's "ring of fire."

The volcano erupted in January - the first major seismic activity on the mountain in 52 years. Scientists say lava had been building up in recent weeks.

Shinmoedake is famous for standing in as the villain's secret rocket base in the 1967 James Bond film, "You Only Live Twice."

My heart goes out to them. (where's Godzilla when you need him?)

Well ****. My friend invited me to kyushu in order to escape the sweet nuclear radiation. Glad I didnt go. ****in apocalypse. I wonder if the earthquakes and and volcanic activity are somehow related?

Man why is all this stuff happening to Japan? Why not Iran or Somalia?

BTW, Godzilla wouldn't exactly help the Japanese. The first thing he'd do is start destroying shit then head to a reactor to feed.

So Godzilla would actually make things much much worse. Unless of course another monster shows up, then big green can be a hero.

As for a connection between volcanic activity and the earthquakes, I wouldn't be surprised.

This is TRUTH, magnitude 9.1

Because God is fair and just.

During the quake earth axis shifted a few centimeters. So we now have:

a) different earth spin, which means different weather patterns.

b) nuclear disaster of unknown magnitude, they not saying everything.

c) japan's destroyed infrastructure.

d) volcano.

Of these, C and D is not as bad as A and B, because infrastructure could be rebuild, and people don't usually live near volcanoes. It is the media spin that makes YOU focus on damage from quake and tsunami and a volcano. They tend to ignore and downplay nuclear emergency and the effects of axis shift.

By the way, evilness of Iran and Somalia is pretty much only propaganded in United States, in the rest of the world these are known as poor countries with oil on which United States and dumb Americans love to pick. You boyz pick on Iran because they have the balls to call your buddies Israel for the genocide against Palestine, and you boyz pick on Somalia because a) they kicked your butts once, and b) there is a black ops led "Somalian" pirates that attack poor cargo ships....... You'd be picking on Japan if they had oil, but they don't.

You Sir and idiots like you think like your TVs. For me to get into your head all I need to do is watch some FOX newz and I'll know everything about your believes, I'll even know how you like to dress, and what you like to eat.

Exactly, god did this. It can't be due to the fact that Japan is located in the ring of fire. A string of volcanoes along Pacific tectonic plate. Not only that but Japan itself is split because of a smaller tectonic plate.

Go back to the Middle Ages if you believe God is the answer to anything. They don't have electricity or running water. Something about black magic and public hangings for those heretics and "the evil science".

I highly doubt this, post source. I dont get how something can knock itself into a different axis/rotation without an external force.

It was said on the Internet.
Why would you need further proof?

I read it the first day it was reported...but here you go:

All you gots to do is google it.

"The massive earthquake that hit Japan on Friday was so powerful that it changed the shape of the country's coastline and shifted the earth's axis."

Yes, the earthquake shifted the axis by a hair. But no difference in weather patterns.

Do you ever feel like some days drag on longer than others? That feeling may be psychological, but actual day length really does fluctuate--by a fraction of a millisecond. (A millisecond is one thousandth of a second)

The length of a day, which is measured by the time it takes Earth to rotate once on its axis, can be measured to an accuracy of about 10 microseconds, or 10 millionths of a second. Earth's rotational rate depends on the distribution of mass across its surface. This includes the roiling aggregation of gases that comprise the atmosphere, the solid earth itself, its fluid core, and the sloshing ocean. For example, when a major earthquake shifts the planet's mass, it can slow or speed the day by as much as a few thousandths of a second.

In fact, the Indonesian Sumatra earthquake in December 2004 that spawned a deadly tsunami moved so much water that it slightly changed our planet's shape and sped its rotation by 2.68 microseconds, or nearly three millionths of a second.

The shortening or lengthening of one day by a few millionths or thousandths of a second does not have any real appreciable significance.

The report I heard on the radio this morning said our days were shortened by roughly half a second because of the axis shift. If that's true, I could see that causing some issues.

How about we pick on Iran because it is theocracy hanging people with opposing believes. How about they are hate mongers and sponsors of Hizballah who tries to inflict theocracy on Lebanon. How about their pursuit of wiping out of Israel.

Somalia is a mess. I am deeply sorry for them. Any good man living in Somalia lives in perpetual fear for any time can bandits kill him and his family to stole his shyt.

Have it crossed your mind that maybe you are not clever yourself? Maybe you want to feel like the few "who know how it is" or like a Victim of persecution? Maybe your mind distorts the reality to see it in an angle which supports it's ideas. Sometimes acknowledging to being an idiot yourself is the healthiest thing one can do. It certainly better then to live in a perpetual sense of fear and alienation. Get some perspective, open your mind, brother.

Half a second? Hell no. A shift in a few thousandths is the most an earthquake can affect the spin. The Indian Ocean earthquake was 9.15 in magnitude which is 150 times more powerful and it shifted by only three millionths of a second.

Doesn't the earth's axis shift anyways because it moves like a wobbly spinning top?

So this "shift" didn't do anything to the length of the day then. Unless it sped up the rotation of the earth by contracting it.

For everyone else, think about figure skaters. As they pull their arms in they spin faster and faster. If the earth shrinks due to the continental plates shifting and squeezing, it spins faster resulting in a shorter day.

"The earthquake moved Honshu 2.4 m (7.9 ft) east and shifted the Earth on its axis by almost 10 cm (3.9 in)." - WikiPedia.

You're too smart for yourself, and your head is deep inside your as*hole thanks to FOX newz.

The nuclear disaster is getting greater and greater, but I'm pretty sure that is under-reported and downplayed. Three (3) explosions by now. Not enough water in core, and it blew, there was a meltdown. Maybe watch media from around the world?
