Masking is different. I know guys who ATV to their favorite treestand, then set out rags soaked in doe pee and wait. As said above, it's target practice.

I find that alfalfa tablets work great to cover up bodyscent. I take 2 per day with my vitamins all year around; I'm far less smelly for it. I also step in every pile of crap I can find on any trail when I'm hunting. Mostly, though, I just keep the wind in my face and carry a compass. There are enough game trails in my little Walden that I can play the wind all day.

Hunting is the celebration of Man. It's a celebration of man versus elements. It's practicing survival, and honing techniques and talents. Hunting is a celebration of nature and animals. And, it's cheap meat and a cheap hobby.

Some fools will claim that it's a celebration of killing... those are the drunken rednecks that give hunting a bad repuation.

To quote Tool:

"This... is.. necessary. Life feeds on life, feeds on life, feeds on life, feeds on life."

Man has a place in the food chain. Hunting demonstrates this place.

Hunting is good for increasing your testosterone levels.

Without hunting, and with the abscence of natural predators, many animals would become over populated and cause a great deal of problems.

Those reasons are a good start. Hunting also deprives animals of their right to continue existing for reasons that basically boil down to sport. Bowhunting is a lot more impressive to me than rifle hunting, though.

My friend, an avid hunter, used to camp and hunt with a grizzled old guy who hunted cougars in the San Juan Islands with throwing knives. Now THAT'S manly.

He sounds like he's way into it. Tell him not to bother with "special soaps". The second he breathes through his mouth: game over. There is more scent in his breath than on his body - breathe through your nose. Tell him to keep his hunting clothes in a garbage bag full of pine boughs during the off season... I personally use cedar because it smells nice, and there are a lot of cedars where I hunt. I don't wash my outer hunting clothes unless I get them bloody. I want them to smell like dirt and pine, and besides, the woods isn't a fashion show.
Vulpine -Thanks for the added ideas, I am certain he will appreciate them. He loves to hear other hunters tips and suggestions.

DrOx - Why hunt? I haven't a clue. But, I love it only for the simple reason that it THRILLS Mr. Pix.

All week long he is stuffed in a suit and follows other men's policies and rules. He also has responsibilites in our home and to other family members, but when he preps for the woods, he is his own man. Maybe it is a rejuvenation of man hood, I don't know. With or without a kill, hunting offers him anticipation, excitment, challenges of him against nature, a level of physical exhaustion he can't seem to achieve in a gym and it rekindles something in him.

Once he is home and showered, he kicks back and watches his kill roast over a fire, he has the look of well sated man, for this alone, I LOVE hunting...

Killing animals because other people tell you what to do during the week? I wouldn't presume to judge your motivations, but that's not exactly an argument that would draw me into hunting.

Are the cougars in the San Juan Islands some sort of threat to him? Did he eat the cougars after he killed them? If he didn't, then he was irresponsible and deprived the animal it's right to continue existing for reasons that only boil down to sport. He was killing for the sake of killing. Manly? No. Poor sportsman? Yes.

I only kill animals that I intend to eat or use. Otherwise, they run free and are enjoyed.

Relax. I sincerely doubt the old man ever killed any. But being prepared to do so, using only a sharp edge and no mechanical advantage beyond his arm strength, is very masculine.

Im living in the San Juans right now, I didn't know that we had cougars on the islands... But yeah, That is hardcore. Im on Lopez where the deer are a pest... Its so easy to get one, I could sit in my back yard and wait for about 30 min and one would walk withing 20 feet of me. Target practice at its easiest. Hell I go on walks and get withing 10 feel of them almost daily.

If the old man would have left the cougars alone, they would have ate the deer that are now pests.

Irresponsible.:nono:

I dont know about you but I would much rather have a deer problem than a cougar problem :nervous:

Men frequently err by talking too much. They often monopolize conversations, droning on and on about topics that bore women to tears. They think they're impressing the women when, in reality, they're depressing the women.

When the deer population gets high, the cougar population does also. When the cougar population gets too high, the deer population drops too low to support the cougars' food needs, and the cougar population then drops back again to a point where the deer can sustain them again.

It's a self-correcting cycle. That is what the food chain is. Responsible sportsman and hunters understand this balance.

Since Self Mastery doesn't have any cougars in his area, he needs to replace the deer's need for natural predation by becoming a predator (aka hunter).

Humans have a problem with overpopulation because we are the top of the food chain: we don't have any natural predators. Consequently, our population grows unchecked. Perhaps we need more cougars?

Come to think of it, there are a lot of similarities between sarging and hunting. Real hunting -- groundhunting -- mind you. Patience, alertness, camouflage, working the surroundings, finding suitable prey, drawing a bead (finding an angle to work), the release (the actual pickup), tracking the wounded (getting her back to your place or hers). . . . hmm.
Don't forget BL & intent.

My friend told me an interesting story of when they were hunting a herd of antelopes. They had been stealthily following this herd for days, but everytime they thought they had a clear shot, they bolted. They always seemed to be one step ahead of them!

Well, finally their trip was about over and they just kinda gave up. So, they just kinda stood there plainly and non-treateningly when all of a sudden the antelopes came back...real close. After all this sneaky cat & mouse, it took a while for this fact to register with my friend. But once it did, they all took aim and bagged a few!

I guess somehow these antelopes could somehow detect their intent, and once they dropped it, they felt safe enough to get closer.

If you're bored hunting common animals, why not try hunting humans? Its a true experience!

Humans tend to be intelligent, but lack refined senses. Most are unarmed, although some have knives or guns. The idea is to pounce before they know what is happening, since humans are slow to react. Try to incapacitate a human within 3 seconds, or they might fight back.

Most humans are easily baited. For men, simply use our fine Female Pornstar Hologram ($19.95rrp). For females, have you considered one of our Boy Band Holograms? (14.95rrp) For more information, call your nearest hunting outlet. Happy hunting!

Vegas 'Game' Has Men Hunting Nude Women

A new Las Vegas game gets thrill-seekers out of the casinos and into the great wide open — to shoot naked women with paintball guns.

In "Hunting for Bambi," men pay $10,000 each for the challenge of tracking the women, who are nude except for sneakers, and trying to blast them with colored paint.

"You can actually hunt one of our Bambi [expletive] and shoot her with paintballs," Mike Burd!ck, who runs the game and the site for Real Men Outdoor Productions, says on his Web site, www.huntingforbambi.com.

According to the site, the hunters also have the option of mounting their prey when they're done — and having sex with the women.

Despite criticism that the game is sick and barbaric, Burd!ck said it was all in fun and caters to both male and female fantasies.

"The majority of women have a deep-seated fantasy of that bad-boy image, to be sought after by a stranger," he told Fox News, adding that the women get paid $1,000 to participate in the game — and $2,500 if they avoid getting hit.
