Huge U2 fan, but I would say Matthew Bellamy from Muse has a better singing voice.

It's probably impossible to arrive at any kind of concensus as to a standard of judgment.

"Best voice" could mean anything from techiinical proficiency, to control and ability to stay on-pitch, to simply singing with the integrity that fits him (even if he isn't technically proficient.

Bono usually maintains the integrity of himself and his band, but his pitch is all over the place.

For myself, I truly enjoy technically proficient singers (they are very rare) but non-proficient singers can inject an incredible amount of emotion via their style, and they are therefore equally if not more enjoyable to listen to.

I'm a singer-songwrite myself and all I can say is that God you don't have to be a technically proficient singer in order to have a loyal following. It's all about style and evoking emotions.

Kind of like pickup, eh?

Agreed. He even did a better job singing Where the Streets Have No Name than Bono himself (at least present day Bono)

I certainly think so, although Mike Patton from Faith No More was great (but Faith No More was not really rock, they were grunge).

Wow. Great job.
Certainly you can spare a couple of your millions to buy this guy as an addition to your...harem?

You do brag incessantly about how rich you are and what a "man" you are?

Where's my $1000 check? You did wager it.

Like every other bang-his-chest douche, you'll disengage and run away to find someone with no sense to hopefully give you more green dots.

They are definiately comparable. I love U2, I think Bono could be considered "one of the best" singers in Rock history in terms of range and ability.

Axl Rose is my favorite out of that list. Even if you don't like Guns N Roses you can't deny his ability to hit high notes and hold notes etc...

Shame no one has mentioned Robert Plant yet!!

But Marvin Gaye is the best singer out of anyone mentioned so far =D
