Well, ladies and gentlemen, in about 2 weeks I'm having a birthday turning 28!
Now I've wanted to have parties/do something cool for the past couple of Birthdays but usually I just end up hanging out with my family or perhaps a few close friends. However, I've been more socially active the past few months so I think I might try to invite some people I don't know so well and hopefully throw a good party!!

Anyways, since I've never actually thrown or set-up a party before, especially not for my own Birthday...I would like some suggestions on things to do.
Has anyone had any past experience of this being a good opportunity to get girl's numbers and possibly dates with an event like this? How would you go about inviting people you don't know that well.

Right now I'm planning on trying to get the following groups to attend.
1. Family
2. Friends from Church.
3. Girls/maybe guys whom I know by talking to on the phone but never met in person.
4. people at work
5. Strangers I meet wherever between now and then.

Now the reason I'm bringing this up is because I'm thinking all these groups might not be compatible at the same party at the same time..not sure but I would like your input on any ideas/opinions

Parties around here tend to be tons of alcohol + music. That's all you really need. Well, and the lack of religious/familial figures that might tie you down. But then I'd suggest picking a theme for this party and sticking to that theme.

If there's going to be people getting drunk, dancing, or just generally talking, I don't suggest having family & church goers there (unless they also like to drink and get down).

Or you might go for a more dressy/casual event. Like not so high on the alcohol/loud music/idiocy and more along the lines of classy music with some mixed drinks. Although I think you're going to need some sort of group entertainment (at least as backup) at that point.

Thanks for the reply, Prof!
Personally I hate parties that have blasting loud music and bunch of people becoming drunken idiots and doing stupid ****...personally, I'm thinking of something a little more laid back and low on noise and alchohol at least at first.

Anyways, I hope to get some more replies.
So far my ideas are
1. Party at a bowling alley.
2. Going to a restaruant followed by a movie/karoake (what my sister used to do for her parties)

That's all I have for ideas so far, which is why I'm here to pick your brains and get more ideas.

Also, any ideas on how to use birthday to your advantage when meeting women would be appreciated!

And you make a troll post about how this forum is a waste of your precious time?

Let me give it to you straight. This might be the most offending comment you've read, but also the most useful one.
You are boring.

Become more relaxed. Do fun exciting things. It sounds like you want a tea-party or something.
I'm not sending you back to your teen ages where you went to parties and got drunk (although it sounds like you've skipped your teen years).
Just have fun, don't think too much, have a party at your house, lots of alcohol, maybe some movies, some music.

but dude..
