You raise some good points.

For me its not about tech specs as much as its about PERFORMANCE. PCs can look great on paper, but when the sh!t hits the fan, the numbers fall short.

Example:

At work our PCs are dual 3.2 gigahertz Pentium 4's. So why is it that they feel so much slower than the 1.2 gHz G5? I just did a test in Photoshop..blurred the same image with Gaussian blur filter on Mac and PC. The mac comes ahead by 5.2 seconds! Not bad for a machine with a supposed one-third the processing power.

Also, Panther is so much quicker and easier to get around in than XP, which also saves time.

To each his own, I guess. I should have expressed myself better, since by better specs I meant consequential better performance. And my PC hasn't failed to deliver in performance. I wonder if there are any benchmarks on the net to compare processing power and other task completion between the PC and the Mac. For the applications I use (Flash, Photoshop, CoolEdit, various p2p apps, games etc.) the PC is excellent and the performance is top notch, plus I like really big monitors and cases.
I'm interested though, are you sure it was gaussian blur in photoshop? How large was the image? I have Photoshop 7 on my comp and doing a gaussian blur by 50 px on an image roughly 2000 x 2000 large was almost instantaneous, maybe it took 1 second.

That quote just belies your ignorance. You're still thinking of Windows as the old Windows 95 POS that crashed all the time. The XP/2000 versions of Windows are MUCH stouter and more reliable. The biggest problem facing Windows users now isn't viruses or system stability...it's spyware and adware.

Personally, you may like the Mac better because you don't get those problems. Me...I'd rather just run Ad-Aware and a decent virus-scanner and be able to use a machine that has a wider range of software options.

Macs aren't taking over. All that Mac OS X and Linux have done is force Windows to make their operating system better to avoid such a switch. That's capitalism at work.

Face it fools. PC stands for Piece of Crap.

I'll admit that Macs have their niche for artistic rendering, graphics processing, etc, but when you talk about PCs in the home, Windows-based machines are still dominant. And until you show me some sales figures that show home consumers buying Macs over PCs, then everything you say here is hearsay and conjecture.

Strange how you never see Windows users starting threads like this...because they don't NEED to. The same way an alpha male doesn't need to go around TELLING people he's top-dog. They just know.

If you like Mac better, then use it. Tell us about how great it is if you must. But stop fabricating technical mistruths, throwing a hissy, and coming up with immature crap like, "PC = Piece of Crap." If that's how Mac users operate, then no wonder.

I got Photoshop CS. We do more heavy-duty retouching here. Some files can be up to 800 megs! Here are the specs of my test.

Image Size: 12x24"
Mode: CMYK
Resolutions: 600 dpi
Filesize: 395.5 MB
Filter: Gausian Blur

Mac Results: Done in 12 seconds
PC results: Done in 17.5 seconds

Both results are impressive considering the filesize. But the Mac comes out on top everytime!

I was just having this sort of debate with all of my Machead friends earlier today...

Macs look good... I will give you that. But in the grand scheme of computer land and anyone who knows anything about computers knows that Macs just look good but are pretty much on par with everything else. It's nothing special once you get passed the pretty colors.

In the long run... style never beats substance.

Have you noticed that Apple never hype up or even mention the CPU specs of Macs? The G4 isn't even 900mhz (yes, thats M as in MEGAHERTZ and NOT gigahertz).

Then Apple set the G4 beside a Pentium 1.7 and actually beat it but stacked the deck by choosing only applications optimized for OS X and the hardware, talk about apples and oranges. I wonder what would happen if we could run Quake on a G4. Like I said earlier, it's better to get a Game Boy.

Intel is creeping up to a 4Ghz processor and Apple is barley approaching 1Ghz. Well maybe someday, Macs are only 20 years old, so we should see them approach 4Ghz in about 2064 (give or take). Anyway....
