Recently I've discovered this love for zombie films and I've been absorbed in nothing but zombie films recently. In the past couple weeks I've watched Dawn of the Dead (1978), Flight of the Living Dead, Dance of the Dead, Dead Snow, and Versus. Plan on adding to that list with the Evil Dead trilogy, FiDo, Bio Zombie, and Night of the Living Dead (the 1990 remake, after watching the original Dawn of the Dead, those old zombie movies are just too outdated for me but I'll probably watch Zombii 2 just to see what this zombie on shark action is all about). What do you think are the best zombie movies?

My Top 5:

5. Dead Snow
4. Planet Terror
3. Zombieland
2. Dawn of the Dead (2004)
1. 28 Days Later/28 Weeks Later - Helicopter rotor mowing scene, that's all I can say.

Flight of the Living Dead and Dance of the Dead would make my next two on my list. Shaun of the Dead is another great one. Couldn't put myself to put any of the oldies in, guess I'm just too young to appreciate them; they just don't incite any fear at all. I mean the way the survivors can literally run around the slow zombies in Dawn of the Dead, it was just laughable to me.

Anything by Romero is Good. The Dawn of the Dead remake is my favorite zombie flick. As far as recent movies go The Crazies was really good too.

28 days/weeks later is my favorite because it doesn't have any of those pansy slow walking zombies. That being said I also love Shaun of the Dead cause Simon Pegg is really just too funny.

For video games Resident Evil 1 is scary and RE4 is awesome.

I once saw a short clip of a movie where the zombies were able to talk, for what I recall one said to one of the guys that they were going to eat them all.
Anybody knows it?

Anyway Dust said it,Romero is the leader in the genre but actually diary of the dead was a little disappointing.

To the op,if I were you I would take a look at the tv series "the walking dead" coming up soon.

I despise that awful DOTD remake and am offended you would both list it as amongst your favorites.

That said, play the Left 4 Dead games for a truly awesome zombie experience.

The Left 4 Dead games are awesome. You have a pretty good list going. I too can't seem to get into the older zombie movies

I definitely have my eye on The Walking Dead, it's one of the few TV shows that I've ever looked forward to watching. Also, if any of you guys don't mind anything animated, there's this anime called High School of the Dead which I think is nothing short of excellent so far.

Personally speaking the reason why I love zombie movies is because of the atmosphere they create, literally a "me against the world" feeling. The feeling that the survivors always have to watch their backs not only from the zombies, but from their other comrades because they can turn into one of them as well. And it's always interesting to see how a group of people try to survive a zombie outbreak seeing how they operate like a small society in a post apocalyptic world. The remake is without its flaws, but I thought it portrayed these two things better than any zombie movie out there. Though I prefer the "28 Later" series better because it's the scariest zombie movie out there that doesn't use cheap scares and thrills, and the storytelling is just so much superior imo. And like I said before, helicopter rotor mowing scene, epic.

Oh yeah and since people are throwing games out there, the Nazi Zombies mini game in Call of Duty: World at War is one of the best zombie games I've ever played (it's a b1tch how you have to buy all those other maps though). The Last Stand 2 is a free online zombie game, it also is a great zombie game and one of the more cleverly constructed ones I've played. In fact I believe it made a list on the top zombie games of all time.

28 days was great.

28 weeks later, omg those were the stupidiest children in the history of stupid children on film. I was rooting for them to die the whole movie. Weak writing.

I forgot about the Nazi Zombies. Past a lot of time that way. There is an app for the iphone for it. Only thing better than killing zombies is nazi zombies.

28 Days/ Weeks Later. HANDS DOWN!

The cinematic scenes were extremely brutal and shocking, I was out of my seat when I first watched this. Films that make you think "What if this did actualky happen and Can happen" to an extent cannot be compared and are in leagues of their own, like Inception. And first movie to put emphasis on a incurable virus which spreads throughout the entire country if I'm not mistaken? Plus you can't beat Clint Mansell on the soundtracks and scores.

I love 28 weeks later..especially the first scene with that guy sprinting across the field and zombies running down the hill after him, also the part where the marines lose control of the situation in the city. Dawn of the Dead remake is ok but screw that lame mall...they need to do some sort of 28 weeks later type movie set in manhattan where people are running around the inside of the empire state building dodging zombies and across the rooftops of brooklyn. Now that would EPIC.

3Countries i was just going to post that comment. The opening scene of 28 weeks later is amazing! Just because you feel like you could be in the exact same situation, like a bad nightmare being chased.

I also have a weak spot for zombie movies i think they are awesome, and is sick as it seems i think it would be sweet if zombies existed and you were a survivor with a shotgun. (Common i know youve all thought of this)

I also second that the crazies is a very good recent zombie movie worth a watch!
