Panasonic and Pioneer. If i'm not mistaken, Sony doesn't make plasmas.

I prefer LCD for convenience and the short depth LED DLPs for image quality.

Most people are going with LCD's now adays. The picture quality is about the same. You don't get the burn out effect that you do with plazmas. Also hear that it doesn't even matter if you go with the 1080p or 720p for screens smaller than 50 inches. Your eye can't even see the difference.

Some believe that Sony has the best picture. I would find a specific tv that you want and read both the professional reviews and regular joe reviews on it.

Me personally, I'm going with either the 42" or 48" 720p. Not sure which brand just yet though. But there isn't much difference in cost between the two sizes. Walmart will probably have the best deals. Most companies are going out of business because of them here in San Diego.

We used to fix monitors for government and TVs and other electronics on the side..

The most long lasting and easiest to fix TV is CRT..

The least long lasting and once it's brocken you practically can't fix it is plasma..

DLP will leave longer than plasma and LCD but once it dies you can throw it away..

LCD is second to CRT for longivity. It can be fixed easy to, unless it's processor. Most often lamp burns out and you can replace it.

My professional choice is CRT, but nowadays with prices and ever small appartments, and especially if you moving a lot, LCD is good too.

I've heard that LCD is best now. Plasma screens reflect more light, but they can be seen from wider angles then LCD.

Most retailers have a larger selection of LCD's then plasmas.

The DLP sets I've read up on have a wider color gamut and the DLP systems I've viewed seem to bear that out - they look more like projected film. If you're into movies I think DLP is the best overall fidelity.

Otherwise LCD.

I'd agree that under 40" 720 is fine - 1080 is sort of overkill unless you're gonna also use it as a computer monitor. In that case a 40" 1920x1080 is a pretty kick ass gaming display.

Visio from Costco...cheap, works good, and best of all...10 years from now you can return for a new one or a total refund as long as you have the box with all the stuff and receipt! They'll proabably have invisible tv's by then...lol

Invisable tv's... Ever seen the movie Paycheck with Ben Affleck? At the beginning of the movie you see a monitor with a 3D image in front of it. Then he removes the monitor to show that it's just the 3D image.

Now imagine having that crap in your living room!

hmmm i think ill switch to buying lcds. the last plasma sony we bought burnt out, cant fix, so we're like **** screw that. (60 inch). ill go with 720p since most of you agree that at around 42 inches the pixel differnce is negligible.
im probably not goin to be hanging my tv on the wall, so is rear projection the way to go?
and is dlp a new thing to lcd? never heard of that before!

You mean Vizio...theyre garbage. Good luck buying one of their tvs and having it for 10 years...try 2 years:down: before you start having problems.
