It's absolutely standard that companies pay super famous public figures those kinda sums. Imagine being a multibillion $ company. Spending $300-500k per advertisement in order to reach over 180 million boys and girls with low self-esteem, who are more than ready to pay for magical beauty products that are supposed to make your lips look a botox patient, seems more than reasonable.

Well, $2 million is probably just a drop in the bucket for her. The more you make, the more you spend, the higher lifestyle you want to support, usually. Even Michael Jackson was deep in debt, as much money as he made, because his spending was out of control.
A lot of this does have to do with the obesity epidemic. But part of it also is that women are designed to be attractive, looking good is their thing, it's part of their survival assets. Just not being fat doesn't work so well for guys.
