This is what I consider an interesting story about someone being perceived as a creep. You tell me if you agree or not.
I met a girl, we'll call her Sarah, at the company gym about a month ago. She's fresh out of college and a gorgeous sorority girl, but on top of that, really outgoing. The first thing I noticed about her when I met her is that she talked to everyone in the gym and they all knew her current goings-on. Obviously, all the guys were interested in talking with her, so she had no problem making friends with everyone there.
There's one guy in particular that she seemed to be pretty good friends with, they talked a bunch and he seemed like a decent guy. He looks like he's about 50 and he's one of the lawyers for the company. Anyway, today Sarah and I were running on the treadmill and talking, when that guy did his workout and then I think went outside for a run. When he left, she told me that she found that guy extremely creepy. It was kind of shocking to me, because she always seemed personable with him and he seemed alright. She then said that he asked her out to a pub one night, which again, I see no problem with. (She's a hottie and is friendly with him, why not give it a shot??) Additionally, about a week ago, the company gave everyone carmel apples as some sort of charity / morale builder, and he gave his to her with a note that said something like, "Keep wearing the purple shorts," because he is a graduate of Northwestern University, and that's their color. I do think that's a little inappropriate, but I can kind of see where he's coming from; it's just a topic of conversation he brings up casually.
I think it's a given that their age gap is pretty unusual for a couple and I would consider it odd if she was into him, but she was very friendly, so I can see how he perceived it as flirty. That's why I thought it was strange that she now calls him a creep, because I don't really think he did anything wrong. The only thing she said now is that she's making an effort not to talk to him as much anymore. I almost feel bad for him because he was on an elliptical near me listening to her complain that she was calling me all weekend and I didn't return her call and ruined her weekend (I didn't get any of her texts for whatever reason).
Is this guy a creep? Personally, I don't think so. He put himself out there and gave it a shot, and she called it creepy. His reference to her shorts is on the inappropriate side, but it was an innocent comment that I'd be willing to bet she'd find funny if it was coming from me.
What do you guys think?
