Being Christian and turning the other cheek

As a Christian, we are supposed to treat others we would like to be treated and turn the other cheek to insults and if someone physically attacks us.

While I like the philosophy, sometimes I think following this role makes you look weak and can be an open invitation for the a-holes of this world to take advantage of you.

Anyone else hear what I am saying?

See only a dumbass religious person would say that. Anyone that is atheist wouldn't, since we are a select breed who think for themselves. I think you're thinking of people that are passive, or agnostic toward religion would.

Nah, you would convert, because you would be scared. You know what they say happens to non-believers.

If someone told me I was going to die in seven days, I'd say everything I ever wanted to say to anyone but didn't, then go on a crime spree, have as much fun as possible, and finally jump out of an air plane without a parachute.

The last thing I'd do would be to turn Christian. Christianity, and in fact any religion, is organized ignorance.

I have less respect for anyone who tell me they are religious. Anyone who "doesn't believe" realizes how foolish it all is. It's just another fairy tale, only a billion people happen to believe this one.

What happens to non-believers is that they lead an enlightened life that is not based on a huge network of lies concocted by a group of priests thousands of years ago with the sole intention of controlling people.

If someone wants to impose pain, suffering or any negativity on an innocent victim, then I say they deserve whatever comes back at them. They chose to violate the will of the victim and to what extent, so the victim should be given the same freedom to choose his/her revenge.

The bible is 2000 years old, the only purpose it had was to explain the natural world 2000 years ago for ppl BACK THEN. It contradics itself so much and I don't get why ppl believe in that stuff, seriously it's mass brainwashing. It's been woven into the US like in the "Pledge of Alligance." The only differance between a cult and religion is the NUMBER OF PEOPLE FOLLOWING IT.

I used to be a christian going on sundays, helping little kids now it's only used as a political tool by corrupt officials. Only reason why Bin Laden attacked the US is because US is 70% Christian, Bush calling Iraq War the "Crusade" doesn't help anything either and made the problem worse because now other ppl think this is a religious war.

Actually most "atheists" are REALISTS and believe in science, if you were a TRUE believer in "GOD" why do you take MEDICINE? "GOD" should cure you with his magic powers since your his follower right? Why would someone convert if he had 7 days, that's a waste of time your better of doing and living life. That's why religion is a waste of time, what has "GOD" done for you? Hey I could be wrong, but I wont' go to hell since "GOD" is "ALL FORGIVING" right?

The bible doesnt say to not defend yourself. Look at David and Goliath. Jesus said the "turn the other cheek" thing when someone asked him how they can be more like him. That is what Jesus did, but Jesus also didnt put up with any shyt. He went to the temple and yelled at the hypocrites and threw their stuff around. When Jesus turned the other cheek, he made his attackers look like assh0les, and proved he was better than them. He LET himself be crucified, cuz God told him to.
If you want to be a Christian, you have to have the faith that this life is just a road to our real destination. God makes it clear that the road is very bumpy and hard as hell to go down, but in the end, all the shyt we go through in this life will be worth it the end, as long as we follow Gods will.

Now everybody, read this: Noone is trying to convert anyone, and this is not a religious debate. The poster was simply asking a question about a certain religious principle, so if you arent a believer, dont fvcking worry about it! I hate "religions," but I belive in the MESSAGES in the bible. Being an Atheist has nothing to do with anything. Its simply a lack of faith.

I assure you, that living your life well and being a good human being and helping others will score you more points with "the Lord" than believing in some wacky religion and going religiously to church.


The Church (and all its customs) by the way, was looked down upon and scorned by the son of god (JESUS).



So let's see what you have done so far:

1. Supported a Church that has added to human suffering over centuries with things like spanish inquisitions, witch burnings... etc.
2. Supported and Prticipated in a Church that even Jesus himself disaproved of.
3. Naivelly believe that because you're "so religious" that somehow you're so much better a being than us and don't have to do any good or things like charity work to help out your fellow man. "I'm religious, watch out. I'm a good person because I go to Church and read the Bible."

funny thread, I can't take religious people seriously...there's no reason to believe in a god so why would you?

it's even worse to believe in a religion, have you not noticed that the religion of one generation is regarded as a stupid idea by the next? well now we're enlightened enough to see that it's a stupid idea already!

and why do christians think paganism is flawed? "why would you believe in more than one god?" a christian once said to me...the best response is along the lines of "when you understand why you don't believe in multiple gods, you'll understand why I don't believe in yours" - someone famous whose name I forgot said that

lovin' Sean's wording! however I reckon being atheist is a bit pointless because it's caring too much - if those religious peeps want to try to convert you, have a laugh and tell them you're a germanic neopaganist, then when they question you tell them all about the fenris wolf, loki and the inevitable ragnarok - I do this at uni whenever the christian union approach me and I tell you it's a LOT more fun than telling them why they're wrong
