I've never heard of Handball until they showed it after the Lithuania and Argentina game. It was pretty entertaining to watch.

I'm in Taiwan. I will be watching the Taiwan Baseball team AKA Chinese Taipei and also the US Basketball team games. I don't think there is any time delay:D

I couldn't give a rat's ass for any super-dull olympic rubbish except my gf is Taiwanese and I want their baseball team to kick ass.

And Chinese Taipei my arse! They are Taiwanese and that's how they should be referred to.

Oooooooh. Good relay there.

Biggest come-from-behind win ever in an Olympic swimming relay race.

Record breaking relay time - and it slaughtered the old record to an unheard of degree.

Micheal Phelps may need to break a world record in each of the next six events to satisfy his goal to make it to 8 gold medals - and to make his place as one of the greatest athletes of all time.

Tell her a little about yourself, but not too much. Maintain some mystery. Give her something to think about and wonder about when she's at home.

Omg, I was sad. After that norwegian guy breaks 2 olympic records he only gets silver behind that japanese guy. Oh well. They are both ****ing beasts, so extremely close...

Heh.

A girl from my town, that i've partied with a couple of times just beat Katie Hoff to the gold in some sort of swimming. 400m I believe, and is world record holder for the 800m.

Oh man the Chinese made the mistake the other day of referring to the Taiwanese team as China- Taipei instead of Chinese-Taipei..

The first game against Holland should be winnable. It's a pretty strong team.

Hmm..

I'll start off by saying I respect swimming and most of its competitors.

But, I have a problem with the Swimming events.. For most sports, there are only 3 medals that are all hardfought, take Tennis for instance, it takes almost two weeks to hand out 1 single gold medal. On the other hand, you have swimming where medals seem to be handed out like hotcakes on a daily basis, with some olympians winning upwards of 3-4 medals.

Here's a list of swimming events in which medals are distributed(this is only half, lets not forget the womens events):

Men's 400m Individual Medley Final
Men's 400m Freestyle Final
Men's 100m Breaststroke Final
Men's 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay Final
Men's 200m Freestyle Final
Men's 100m Backstroke Final
Men's 200m Butterfly Final
Men's 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay Final
Men's 200m Breaststroke Final
Men's 100m Freestyle Final
Men's 200m Backstroke Final
Men's 200m Individual Medley Final
Men's 100m Butterfly Final
Men's 50m Freestyle Final
Men's 1500m Freestyle Final
Men's 4 x 100m Medley Relay Final
Men's 10km Marathon Swimming Final

That's 17 different medals, when--in my mind--there should only be 3 or 4.

One for short distance (speed). Eg: 50m freestyle
One for long distance (endurance). Eg: 10km marathon
One relay event (team work). Eg. 4x200 freestyle relay
You might even fit another mid-distance one in there.

--

It's just baffling that whenever I have time to flip on the TV to watch olympics, it's always swimming swimming swimming swimming followed by more swimming. And unless one has a detailed education of the sport and is a swimming enthusiast, most people don't know or care for the subtle differences in swimming strokes(eg. freestyle-breaststroke-medley, etc). Swimming should be fastest possible way from point A to point B.

Let's see some different sports that promote different skill development and more exciting television programming!!!

I agree, and I wonder if there is some sort of movement out there to clean up the clutter.

Track is the same way when you think about it. 100, 200, 400, 800, and I think 1500m races, repeated with hurdles, repeated with high hurdles. Instead of throwing, it's throwing balls, throwing disks, throwing javelins, and throwing ball and chains. Combined into various medleys for heptathalon and decathalon medals.

Given the hoopla around the Olympics, gold medals should be more like Academy Awards or World Cups. As they are, they kind of feel like conference championships or Continental Tire Bowl victories.

The olympics is however the only chance that swimmers get to make a name for themselves. Tennis players get paid millions of dollars throughout the year at other tournaments, no one gives a sh1t about any of the other big swimming meets. Winning gold at the olympics is not as big a deal as winning a grand slam tournament for tennis players. It is however the highest achievement in swimming.

The olympics is all about swimming and athletics.

I'm gonna be watching basketball, swimming and track. Track should be a lot of fun because a guy I knew from high school is running in the 400-meter relay for the United States.
