Heh, I love the attitude coming from around the world regarding the American soccer team.
Um, let me fill you guys in on something... while every single kid in your country plays "football" the day they fell out of mommy, there are at LEAST five or six sports more important in America. So the most athletic American kids don't play soccer, and the majority of sports funding goes to other sports.
Trust me, if the U.S.A. really WANTED to become dominant at soccer, it would happen in a second. They have so much money and so much desire to dominate (and be loved by) the world.
And I say this as a Canadian. Trust me, I have no special love for the U.S.!

The previous post is quite true-soccer (your football) bores the crap out of we Americans. A lot of running around and nothing happening most of the time. We'd rather see guys collide and try to rip each other's heads off, which is why American football is way, way, way more popular in the U.S.
Watching World Cup football is sorta like jacking off with no climax- a lot of running around, a few "almost" scores most of the time. If it's a really "exciting" game, that is. Almost score! Denied! Almost score! Denied! Maybe twice, over the span of about 60 minutes. Infrequent near-misses don't inspire excitement for the citizens of this country. ZZZZZ (snoring). Winning scores of 1-0 and 2-1 don't exactly mean there's a lot going on most of the time. Some of the players could have cobwebs on them by the end of the game and it won't make much difference in the final score.
And that's when it's a GOOD match. Most of the time it's just watching skinny guys get aerobic exercise, back and forth, back and forth, ad infinitum, with little prospect of a goal occurring, which is about as much fun as watching traffic lights change.
A typical reaction of an American sports fan to your football is BORING!!!!

Basketball is a cheap hyped up version of the girly game called netball, I mean come on its origins lie in netball LOL.

In case you haven't noticed, we do our own thing, and what the world likes is of very, very little concern to the U.S. sports fan.
Hell, we don't even use the metric system. What did you think, we'd like the same sports, too?
Pffft. Unlikely. American football is faster and more violent than rugby, which is why we have to wear armor. Everyone would be dead if they didn't wear it. The armor allows more violence and collision speeds are much higher than in rugby.

Yeah it's true, the world likes things different than Americans. That's why approximately 2 billion people watch the World Cup, but only a fraction of people watch American sports. Basketball is actually created by a Canadian, baseball is from cricket, and football shouldn't even be called football, more like handball. It's also the country where sports like NASCAR are popular.

Exactly your a nation thats been founded through violence thats why you cant stand a proper game type where there is skill required and not brute animal strength, its just the way you guys are, thats why people love to make fun of you guys.
And Ive played both rugby and gridiron and trust me the Armour does take most of the impact away, of course your an idiot if you go smacking into one of the big guys, but every tackle in rugby hurts like a bit(h a week later.
And the comment about if the US wanted to they could be the best ...... yes they could any team could if they had the resources, its just that you guys are so ****y that its a good feeling when your load mouthed players and teams get raped hard in a game.
Most of the time the rest of the world just lets the US do its thing its better to let the little kid whine and get his way so the rest of us can go do something more productive LOL (I'm just ribbing ya).

America dominates the world in everything except maybe a few. US athletes are the best in the world as is proved by the number of gold medals won by team USA in every olympics, winter and summer. All of the fastest track stars are, you guessed it, American. Oh and the best place in the world to live, as far as economy and job market, is America. Personally I would like to live in Hawaii, no wait thats part of America, so yes America is the best contry in the world. Everyone else hates us because we're the BEST. As far as SOCCER we could really give a sh1t. The Superbowl is the highest rated television program every year. Baseball takes the most skill yet the USA team lost to some crappy teams in the World Baseball Classic because you cant put a team of allstars out there and expect them to play as a team, compared to soem teams that play together for years. Oh I almost forgot to mention Lance Armstrong. Hes probably the main reason why the french dont like us. Hes a BEAST. The epitamy of American work ethic and determination.
The U.S. is actually slipping in both. They only got 3 more gold medals in Athens than China. Most analysts expect China to win the next Summer Olympics. U.S. already fell in the Winter Olympics as Germany beat them this year and they were beaten in Salt Lake.NSUballer said:

Yes America is in debt, but its still the best place to live why else would 20 million mexicans want to live and work here, and alot of other foreigners.. And China is communist so they tell the kids that arent athletically inclined that they have to join the military. Imagine how good we would be if we had amateur athletes that spent ALL their time training. And why do so many foreigners want to attend American Universities. USA is topdog of the world. Mess with us and we'll send the Navy Seals to assassinate you.

The Mexican thing is due to the fact its just a border hop, thats what happens when the rest of the world leach of third world countries and then try to prove they are better then the rest, the same thing happens with Australia with Indonesians trying to raft in, if people see something is better they will strive to get there.
And I'd still rather go to Oxford or Cambridge then Harvard, BTW no one is saying that the US isn't top dog, but being the top dog doesn't mean you go bragging about it nor put up a guy like bush as your leader, I'm sure anyone could do a better job then him, gotta love his speeches though.

As someone who has played both rugby and football (a rarity outside of Canada)... I'll say that football is a much more physical sport.
While I made more tackles in rugby (as a fullback), in football you tend to get hit or blocked on every play. And in EVERY play you're going full-speed, unlike in rugby where you are generally chasing the play.
But both sports are AWESOME and fun.
As for all the comments about various countries' sports... any sport of which you don't know the intricacies sounds boring. American football looks like a bunch of guys smashing into each other, "soccer" is simply a bunch of guys passing the ball around.
Baseball bores the heck out of me, but I can understand why some people find it fascinating. Same with golf.
I'm a huge NFL (and CFL) fan, and I've gotten a few people into watching the games by helping them with the details of rules and strategies.
Sorry to deflate all the nationalism here...
