Hey, i recently had a few games with some old friends and Woah... i didn't realize i was so bad.

Anyway I've got jumping programs ready for me to use (air alert) and i've found a good website listing good basketball drills.

The main thing that concerned me was how to i increase my reaction speed? Is this something that will come naturally through practice? It just felt really wierd seeing the ball wizz past you then realizing, 'oh sh1t! i could have caught that'!

anyway some input would be awesome.

good luck with the air alert, I haven't done a jumping program in ages. In air alert the week before the resting period feels brutal that is if you never did a jumping program before. I take it you aren't athletic. The only way to improve your speed to reaction is by playing more games and getting use to your opponents style of play.

yeah i was never really athletic in the conventional sense. I just swam and lifted weights and stuff.

So basically to increase reaction speeds and stuff i need to practice more and more.

Also, the burn in your quads feels really different in basketball from the burn from doing squats etc. It felt nice. haha

p.s how the hell do i get over a fear of the ball? when it's coming right at my face i instinctively look away.

If you want to be great on the basketball court I don't think you need much, if any, weight-training. Simple bodyweight exercises will probably be enough. Lots of them for conditioning though.

I'm a city kid so I've played basketball my entire life. I also played handball which is a great workout AND great for hand-eye coordination. Smacking that little ball isn't easy and you will improve your reaction time guaranteed.

You want explosive speed try plyometrics. There are whole plyometric routines developed strictly for basketball. Here is one example:

The only way I can tell you to get over your fear of being hit by the ball is to be hit by the ball. It's not so bad, you won't break your nose or lose an eye, and the pain is over in a couple minutes.

I got into Air Alert like four times and it's just so hard to stay committed, good luck though. What I'm doing right now is dribbling a tennis ball to improve my handles. If you can dribble a tennis ball, you can sure as hell dribble a basketball.

Tell her a little about yourself, but not too much. Maintain some mystery. Give her something to think about and wonder about when she's at home.

I understand where you are coming from by like week four you are like damn I should have gained like 10 inches lol for the effort you put in. The highest I think I gone was like week 10 then I was back on and off like you, so yeah I know how much a pain that program can be. On a positive note it did make me fast as hell though. What you can do to get over your fear of the ball hitting your face is throw a ball against the wall and catch it. War you can also dribble with the lights off in a basement or something or you can just close your eyes and dribble.

yeah weight training probably won't help in the basketball quart but i'm still going to do it cause i really like it, haha.

I'll look into the explosive type exercises. Also, i've started doing sprints in the morning instead of jogging. Is this recommended?
