Hey DJ, I'm 25 as well and have had to deal with acne for about 10 years and have JUST now started to conquer it! Not only would I break out but my skin would hyperpigment and leave deep brown spots that would last from weeks to months-completely blotching my complexion, so I *KNOW* how the self-esteem can plummet from this. I wanted to share a few things I found out relating to your original question though, and also share what's worked for me.
First off, the posters that commented on bad skin not being a dealbreaker for women are dead on. What is a dealbreaker is a man that's confidence is shaky-if you want to have female success you MUST seperate your confidence level from the status of your face. I have experienced this first hand and had plenty of success (and sex) with women with bumps and blotchiness going on. During those times I just said 'f*ck it' and let the positives I had going on determine my self-worth. It also sounds like you are thinking with typical male logic (ie, "I know I want a pretty girl with a pretty face, so she must only date handsome-faced guys"). As some other posters have stated, DO NOT THINK LIKE THIS! Girls do not operate with the same (any?) logical thought process. It's crucial to understand this. What I did do to help my physical confidence in the meantime was to accentuate the positives: filled out my 6'0 frame to about 185, started getting my haircut everyother week, upgraded the wardrobe, improved posture, etc etc. These will certainly help you feel better about yourself, which is the main goal.
As far as actually clearing up your face here's a few thoughts from someone who's spent probably in the thousands on OTC and RX products and treatments over the last ten years.
-Acne prone people most DEFINITELY are affected by their diets. I know for a fact there are certain foods I need to stay away from (mostly the refined sugars as someone else stated). This I have experimented with and won't argue with! Read "The clear skin prescription" by Nick Perricone for details on this and suggestions for replacement foods. I'm big on slow cooked oatmeal for my carbs with some vanilla soymilk. Great pasta and cereal replacement. My dietary changes helped my considerably. It's unfair, yes, to see your buddies eat like beasts and have perfect skin, but they are not acne-prone, so get over that line of thinking.
-Avoid stressing out and get good sleep. This is prevention and recovery for your body and thereby skin, which is simply a window to whats going on inside.
-Like I said I've tried LOTS of products and I've FINALLY found one that seals the deal for me. I have oily skin so of course controlling that without overdrying and not clogging my pores with the wrong moisturizer has been a huge priority. Here's what I've been using for 3 weeks with GREAT success:
Nasabb african black soap, ****inson's witchhazel astringent, Nasabb unrefined shea butter. Morning and night. The real keys are the nasabb products. All three though are completely naturally made (were we rubbing salycilic f*cking acid on our faces and popping accutane 500 years ago?) and do NOT clog your pores. They're made for any skin type and I highly recommend any DJ go to their website nasabb.com to step your grooming game WAY up. They have customer comments that completely echo mine: Rapid cessation of breakouts, MUCH faster smoothing of complexion than hydroquinone or other fade creams and a healthy, glowing complexion. And I have seen these exact things, really in the first few days, but now more thoroughly in appx 3 weeks.
***HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR ANY MAN, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO ARE ACNE PRONE...FROM ONE DON TO ANOTHER.***
Remember though, your skin tone is not the be all to success with women. Develop your inner sense of worth as a MAN seperate from your physical attributes FIRST, so that when you DO step out with a great looking exterior you'll be polished through and through.
