Arrogance…is it a good thing? I don’t like arrogance.
*Note: this is not a post for people with a low self-esteem.
-Arrogant people think they are the best. True? They are more important than other people, they are the best there is, and they are always right. The problem with this, though, is that it’s a very limiting way to live. You think you’re the best, but who are you comparing yourself to? The people who know more than you, or the people who know less? All you’re doing is lowering your standards, which is cheating yourself of happiness. Yeah, it makes you feel good to compare yourself to people who aren’t as well off as you. But when you do that, when you’re blinded by how “great” you THINK you are, you don’t get any better, and everything will eventually come crashing down on you. There's nothing wrong with being proud of who you are, but when it limits you, when it gets to your head, when you go on an ego trip, that's when things go sour. Read those posts by Likretsam, I think it's called “I did what I could not do.”
-When you’re arrogant, you make excuses for yourself. That chick didn’t like you? She doesn’t know what she’s missing, that was her fault, not mine. Can’t make friends? It's not my fault, it's the circumstances, it's the people, it's the school, but it isn't me. That guy disagrees with you? He’s just a stupid idiot, because I am always right. It might not be exactly like this, but it’s there one way or another. It’s a very limiting way of living your world, and when you’re blinded by arrogance, well, you’re blind.
-Arrogant people also think that they know it all. If you’re really the best, you should be the best. You should be coming up with ideas that NO ONE has ever dreamt of, you should be starting revolutions, you should be world-famous, and there should never be any doubt in anyone’s mind that you are, indisputably, the best. If you haven’t reached that point, it means you aren’t the best, it means you have to keep going and keep improving yourself. You will NEVER know everything. You won’t even come close, and that’s a fact. If you think you know it all, you’re living in a delusional world, and you’re only limiting yourself. Do you realize how silly it is to act like you are something that you are not?
-Arrogant people are self-important, and they like bragging. Isn’t that right? Bragging is our way of proving our worth to other people. But if we feel like we have to prove our worth, then obviously we don’t feel like we are worth much.
