Anyways, isn't the best way to go is to find a small oil company or something like that? Even if not, you're damn right you're money will grow if you invest in oil.

Stop your fvcking whining. In the uk, we currently pay about 91p per litre, that's £3.44 (US$6.02) per gallon. Diesel is even more expensive.

But you also have public transportation that works, and much shorter commutes. Try living in Southern California without complaining about $3.00 a gallon.

ok, that's a fair point..especially about the shorter commutes -- I still think the price is outrageous though. We're paying pretty much double what you are.

I'm guessing the government puts so much tax on it in order encourage people to use public transportation, which is ok, but still not nearly as convenient as using your car.

That means nothing. What are you paying monthly for gas? I guarantee you if you actually lived in the US outside a major city, you'd be b*tching about high gas prices too. Cars are simply more of a necessity in most of the US than in european countries.

Agreed. I do feel sorry for europe having to pay $6+ a gallon, BUT they do have a convienient and effective public transportation system. I have **** where I live. My commute is probably also bigger over a month than europeans and Im a 16 y/o driving my own car... Imagine how I feel paying for gas (And insurance)

I just stood at the pump and watched it cross the $50.00 mark. How sickly I felt. Anyway, the pump has a sign on it to contact:

www.lowermygasprices.com

I checked it out breifly but do not have time to follow it all right now. (Cooking the Easter feast at the moment.)

Who knows, maybe with enough voices we will be heard.

No matter how much conservatives hate Jimmy Carter, he was spot on about investing in alternative sources of fuel. It is now 3o yrs later and we face the same problem. Why would a grain rich nation like the US depend on foreign crude oil?

I'm not worried, for now.

I think I spend around $180/mo., with $2.79/gal. (that's how much it was last time I filled up). Assuming I don't get into any accidents for which I'm at fault, I can expect my auto insurance to drop $70/mo. this coming August. At $250/mo., I can afford $3.89/gal. without paying out any more, so when $4+ happens, I'm ready.

My father predicted $4/gal. at the end of the decade. Looks like he might be right.

World Oil Prices Soar Above $70 A Barrel
17 April 2006
http://www.voanews.com/english/2006-04-17-voa31.cfm

World oil prices rose sharply Monday on concerns about the supply of crude oil in the key U.S. market, and worries that political problems may crimp supplies from Iran and other oil producers.

Prices for London's benchmark Brent crude hit a record $71.40-a-barrel before easing slightly. Prices of U.S. crude for future delivery briefly touched $70 a barrel in Asian trading.

Iran is in a stand-off with the United States and other nations over a nuclear program that Teheran says will be used to produce electricity, but that other nations fear could be used to build nuclear bombs.

Iran is the world's fourth-largest oil producer and investors worry the dispute might lead Tehran to cut exports at a time when there is little spare capacity among other oil producers.

Crude prices also are getting a boost from unrest in Nigeria, where rebel attacks have forced oil companies to cut exports.

For everyone who thinks oil companies are greedy bastards etc...

They arn't.

They are corperations. In Q3 of 2005 they made 9 cents, compaired to the nearly double that ammount that was taxed. Believe it or not there are reasons that oil is so expensive. A new refinery hasn't been built in 25 years in the US because there is so much red tape around it. It takes around 800 permits to be able to build one and even then trying to meet the horrible envirormental standards is too costly. Right now refineries are operating at around 100% capicity. Oil company profit margins are very low compaired to other industries. All the money they do make is fed back into oil production.

See following sources for more info:

Please if you are going to ***** about oil prices or something have real facts to back it up. I'm tired of hearing "OMG BUSH MAKES GAS EXPENSIVE" "why?" "CAUSE HES A REPUBLICAN LOL, HES LIKE IN BED WITH OIL COMPANYS LIKE A FAG"

you're right about that but lets remember that those people are only repeating what they hear on cnn and other tv shows so you can't expect them to know what's going on or think for themselves. While we know we have it cheap here in America with gas prices (if you compare us to Europe) but they don't drive the long distances we drive.

If there is anything good that can come out of this is that maybe people will walk more or use public transportation a bit more. Seriously people don't even want to walk a block/or take their bike to go buy a gallon of milk or go to a restaurant. It doesn't hurt you to get some air and take a walk or ride a bike, it is good for you. The same can be said for taking the bus once in a while. Now that gas prices are rising it is the time to walk more, or take your bike. Go and take the bus once a week instead of driving to wherever you're going. Little savings like this add up plus you get exercise with the walking (in a society were obesity is now an epidemic).

If you're planning to lets say have fun downtown on the weekend why not use public transportation instead? instead of driving your car to places you know are easily accessible by public transportation then why not use public transportation instead once in a while?

Unfortunately public transit is a pipe dream. We don't have public buses out here for 15 miles because I live in the boondocks. In order for me to go to the nearest mall, it is a 35 - 40 minute drive. In order for me to go to anywhere with a business, I must go at least 25 minutes (driving speed is 55 mph btw).

About the fat problem. I have a theory about this that is complete hogwash and should not be taken as realistic

The gas companies know the problem about obesity. In an attempt to make people more fit they are driving up the prices so they make people walk, run, or bike to work. It is a giant conspiracy  a good one at that.
