Whilst I agree that it makes you known as being popular with ladies and you will be tested it also shows that you are afraid of love.
Essentially what is a defintion of a player: Someone that is afraid of love so has to play women in order to hide his insecurites and fear of falling for a woman and loving her solely.

AND being known as a player makes a lot of women put their "guard up" no girl wants to be hurt so immediately when they meet you and have heard you are a player they will put up a "wall" and make it hard for you to break it down aswell as a lot of girls prefer to stay AWAY from the player guys.

One last point some girls actually like a player because they see him as a challenge and they try to "tame" the player.
