Fitness watches are way cooler. And more practical.

It depends on your fashion coordination, i.e. what else you're wearing. Biker look? Yeah, military watch could fit well. Classic men's fashion? Go with a dress watch, or dive watch if a little more casual. As long as you're not wearing a smart watch.

I recommend anyone who is starting to get into watches to check out Seiko's Presage series. Seikos are generally more affordable than most quality watch brands while still being high quality with their own in-house movements, etc.

Fitbits are for women.
Get a smartwatch if you need to monitor your heart rate when you have heart problems.
Or a Suunto GPS watch if you want to pretend to be SF. Or one of those bulky compasses.

Or people who are in far better shape than you that actually take it seriously.
