I'm thinking of joining Toastmasters, which is an orgamization that promotes better public speaking and communication. Is anyone here a member?

The benefits should be obvious to anyone on this forum....

I've been a member for almost four years. Definitely worthwhile.

I agree. Speaking skills not only help you to communicate, but help to bolster confidence and snuff out fear of rejection. Try it!

My old man was part of that when he was in the Air Force back in the day. It changed him for life, he is much cooler to be around, more outspoken, doesn't say stupid sh!t... you get the idea :)

What exactly is Toastmasters like? Is it common to find people with really low confidence in public/group speaking, or is it typically people who are really good at it?

I highly recommend you join! It has help me increase my confidence, improve my social anxiety problems and much more. The members skills are varied. Some don't even need to be there while some look like they rather die than speak.

Go for it!

What do you speak about? Do you just stand up and read pre-written speeches or articles, or do you have big group conversations, or what?
