20 reppers, 20 reppers! Looking good MetalFortress, 2 plates per side and UP is the way to go. And there's those magic moments when you find yourself finally standing after grinding the last rep you thought would nail you down, and think "how the **** did I get up here?"

I'm doing them on the hack squat machine these days, not as brutal as the plain barbell though, and I'm changing workout for a 40-day cycle of Lactic Acid training.

quick update: been upping the diet and doing the program to a tee with perfect form. banged out 175 lbs today doing work but nothing too difficult. I am happy with the progress and am even noticing my sex drive is increasing. As a laymen in the subject ,i can only assume this means my testosterone levels are higher than before. I have also been mentally under the weather since recent life changes so this sort of change seems really positive to me.

Onto 180 lbs! LIGHT WEIGHT BABY!

I feel that most of the regulars are in their off season, but I can understand since this cycle is brutal.

This is the end of week #2, and todays 180 lbs was perfect form and still some gas at the end. I feel that my diet and sleep are helping me progress nicely and I feel the weight coming back. Bring on 185-195 lbs next week, and less importantly the weekend to recover and grow!

Good to see people still doing this :)

A couple more weeks to finish off my current heavy squat cycle then I'll have a crack at my 2010 goal for 20 reppers: 120kg (265lbs or 1.5xBW) x20

synergy1, when I was doing 20 reppers regularly earlier this year, my sex drive was through the roof. It was awesome! The problem was the exertion headache that got in the way of actually enjoying sex. :/

mind posting what your current heavy squat cycle is? I think I am going to try and incorporate that into some regular crossfit after the 20 repper is over. I want to hit close to 400 lbs on squat and think if I keep up what I am doing, its possible.

It's a program I bought from a local coach (who's pretty famous down under), so I'm not allowed to post it on here. His site is: http://www.ptcfrankston.com if you're interested. The program is AU$20, called PPP. Essentially it's a 11 weeks cycle starting with 5x5 squats, then slowly dropping the reps to 3 in some sets while increasing the weights, and finally hitting a lot of heavy singles towards the end, as you approach your new max. Has reps, sets and even weights specified for you if you pick a target max weight, no need to do maths with percentages of 1RM.

I'm going for 170kg (374lbs) in this cycle, and have got to 162.5kg so far. Have one more session to go, hope to hit 170kg, but anywhere between 162.5 and 170 is more than good enough for me. 160kg was my end of 2010 goal!

Hurt my lower back today a little but on 205 lbs and I am closing in on the end of week #4. It should go away since I stretched correctly before/after and did good form, but all it takes is a little bend in the spines to induce a lot of circumferential stress especially in the compression zones.

Im curious, do you how you hurt your back, i.e., form? Did you feel a weakness before hand?

I am wondering because my lower back is the first muscle group to want to give up when I do 20 reppers. The last few reps usually require me to pay extra close attention to keeping good form, esp in my lower back, and by this time these muscles are shaking.

Thanks man, hope you get back on track.

A better place, a better time.
205 x 20

Tried this for the very first time today just to do something different. Might have gone a bit too heavy as I was slowing down and pausing at the top ever so slightly by rep 8, but I made it through. Every rep deep and well below parallel!

Fun ****, I hope bringing this thread back from the dead will get some of us to start updating this again.

Ya this was a cool thread. Good to see all you sick twisted mentally unstable mofos post on this!

I've recently put on around 17 lbs. (185-190 lbs at 5'8", 12-13% bf) I'm doing my first bodybuilding show next year. My conditioning has suffered as a result of the weight gain and my 20 rep numbers won't be anything like they were before, but I'm gonna try a different approach to high rep squats:

Will try squatting w/ 3 plates for as many reps as possible starting from my next "free session". I have a routine my trainers give me, but I do have a free day in there.

I've recently switched to high bar as my core/lower back are having issues firing properly since I've put on the extra weight and my legs/upper back have gotten stronger. High bar helps to protect my lower back/core and recruits my legs a lot more than my core.

So far last work out got 315 x 3 high bar. Will attempt 315 x 5 next session and meet you guys at the higher rep ranges!

... Getting nauseous just thinking about it.

I'll be doing 20 rep squats again for the last 3-4 weeks of the year, after my next powerlifting comp on Nov 28. I'll be squatting with a low-ish bar, shoulder width stance now though, not high bar like I used to.

I'll be starting at 115kg x20 and hopefully get to about 125kg (275lbs) x20.

Been doing 5x10 instead of 1x20 for about six months, courtesy of the Wendler 5/3/1 program.

I find it helps my main worksets more than a 1x20 does.

That's a beastly 20 rep squat! Good luck at your meet... What are your totals looking like right now? What class... 82 kg I'm assuming?

I think you'll do awesome.

Thanks mate :)

I'm competing in an IPF-affiliated fed, and am in the 83kg class (used to be 82.5kg, just got changed recently).

I'd total somewhere between 450 and 465kg. I'm aiming for at least 455kg (1000lbs).

I made my 2010 goal of 120kg (267lbs) x20 today!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYyd28pUU8Y

Was easier than I thought. Took 1:57, vs the 3:30 I did with 115kg a few months ago. It got hard at the end only because the ****ty bar was slipping down my back. My forearms were more sore than the rest afterwards. I should've squatted inside the club where there are better bars.

I think I have 125x20 in me, or even the 1.5xBW at 127.5 (I'm between 83 and 85kg atm), but maybe I'll leave that till next year.

I started the year on 80x20. That seemed like ages ago!
