I was asked to sell insurance, car insurance mostly. Its very hard to build clientele. Takes a long time to make some money.

dude dont do it everyone hates u guys (akin to used car salesmen) and basically ur job is to scour the internet for websites that people put their contact info on and when u call them someone has already sold them insurance 3 months ago

no joke we just got a call for my moms car insurance last weekend; she put the ad up in june and bought some in july

oh and nobody wants to hear that ur an insurance salesmen... trust me everyone hates them after getting 5+ calls every dinnertime for 2 weeks

I know that sounds rude but im just helping u out.. oh and its really disappointing for when you hear that theyve already bought some. almost every single person would be really dissapointed after they found out

It's a commission based job that would make you good at thinking creatively and getting over rejection. Even if you don't decide to be an insurance agent as a career, it could open up lucrative options.

There's no need to do this type of marketing. There are lots of creative ways to attract business besides straight cold-calling.

That's part of being a creative business person is to figure out how to tap into the untapped area, focus on it, and get paid lucratively because of it.

I have done it. Life insurance pays a good commission, but is obviously hard to sell. Typical commission is 50% of first year premiums plus a small residual. Probably 90% of the people who try the job end up failing, as with any commission sales job. I have had several "financial planner" jobs. The key is somehow being able to bring in money. It helps a lot to have rich friends, or at least be able to make rich people comfortable with you.

What kind of degree will you have?

I've sold insurance before, life/health/car. It is a hard gig BUT it offers you incredibly flexibility and the ability to make a TON of cash, but like Biblebelt said, their is a HUGE amount of turnover. Many people only last a couple weeks. In one big life insurance company I sold for, success was in no way dependent on having any kind of degree. One woman was a virtual high school dropout and pulling in five figures a month, easy.

If your ultimate goal is to get into the insurance INDUSTRY, there are many other office type jobs that don't require selling. A friend is an underwriter and makes WELL over six figures.

However, becasue selling insurance can be the toughest gigs around, simply because of the huge amount of rejection you'll encounter along with the wide variety of people you'll engage with on a daily basis, it offers not only the opportunity for incredible income, but also the opportunity to develop wicked social skills (not to mention creative ways to develop leads) that you might never otherwise learn, even by sarging every night of the week.

Fukk it, you're young, you'll have a degree to fall back on. I say grab your balls and go for it.

Do not be too easy. If you are too easy to get, she will not want you. If you are too easy to keep, she will lose interest in you. If you are too easy to control, she will not respect you.

Psychology. Not really a whole lot to fall back on. Im just trying to figure out what i think would be enjoyable. The flexibility and ability to make money are two things that got my interest. Ive been doing some research and it seems that some insurance companies offer a base pay of 35kish plus commission, which would take some pressure off. F*ck, i dunno what im gonna do. I dont wanna spend time learn a bunch of insurance goop and change fields, but i guess its worth a shot. I like the potential that it offers. We'll see what happens.

If there is a base pay, expect them to sit you down immediately after your hiring and make you give them ten names and phone numbers of your friends and family. When you're done, your manager will say "Good. Now you and I will go sell them insurance. Call each of them and make our appointment." Just be ready for that if you take the job.
