Just wondering if any of you guys currently work as personal trainers. I know some of you guys have a very solid knowledge base when it comes to health/fitness and diet.

Any guys employed as PT's in here?

yea-zur', why do you ask ?
I met the training manager of my gf's gym and he wanted me to come by with a resume. I don't have any formal training to be a PT tho...

What is the job like? I'd be doing it part-time of course. Guess I'm wondering what you like/dislike about the job.

Thanks man!

Cons:
- Meat Head Co-Workers

- Poor Organization and Management in the Fitness Industry

- Job is Performance Based (which means theres no such thing as a bad day)

- Mass marketing (if you don't have a huge clientele you've gotta spot a ton of talking to people and selling yourself)

- YOU MUST BE ORGANIZED but expect clients to NOT be. (showing up late, forgetting appointments etc. is unacceptable but often times your clients will show up late)

Pros:

- No greater feeling than changing someones life for the better
Some of your clients will be on the verge of dying because there in such piss poor health, you'll be responsible for saving their lives literally* THE GRATIFICATION FACTOR IS IMMENSE !!

- If your able to sell yourself and your a good trainer that gets results for your clients theres some good money to be made.

- It helps keep you motivated to be in peak shape all year round.

- The overall education you receive about fitness and having a healthy life in general.

- Great way to meet people and sharpen your social skills.

- No matter how bad the job can get IT WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER THAN ANY DESK/CUBICLE JOB.

- Free Gym Membership

- You make your own schedule for work.

you don't need any, most don't have any. he came to you because you "fit the image" -- which is what pt'ing is all about, from a gym manager's perspective.

Oh wait..maybe I should agree that 30 fish oil pills a day is necessary, the only exercises that people need to be doing is squatting, deadlifting and ballistic training and the best way to lose weight is eating cheeseburgers oh yea and everyone can realistically build 30 lbs of muscle every year.

Don't forget to stretch before lifting any "significant amount of weight," and spend LOTS and LOTS of money on supplements that really won't make that much of a difference on hypertrophy and performance.

Settle down, everyone.

For what it's worth, D&B's advice on not stretching before exercising and warming up on the exercise in question was spot on.

However, everyone can realistically put on 25-50lbs of muscle in a year - if they haven't gained any significant muscle before that. If I can gain 40 in a year anyone can. It's a question of dedication, high protein (you will not gain this much muscle eating 1g per lb) and heavy heavy weights.

And Karma is not eating cheeseburgers as in the fast food kind, it's just meat and cheese (I hope!) which for his dietary requirements is fine.

Losing weight on cheese burgers Drum&Bass? Well are we talking about a slice of fat-free cheese and a quarter pound of very lean quality beef cooked on a george foreman grill, on a wholegrain roll. with lettuce, chopped onions, olive oil, and a tiny bit of ketchup. Idk about you, but I ate one a day, and with a combination with my other foods with a good calorie plan- i lost 50 pounds.

And the only supplements i use are multivitamins, fish oil pills, and whey. Don't believe it?

Maybe i should do "incline crunches", eat a vegetarian diet, do cardio for an hour a day before i eat or drink anything, have one whey protein shake a day whenever i feel like it, eat before bed, use every machine in my gym other than free weights, spend all day in the gym-EVERYDAY...oh wait whey comes from milk which comes from cows i guess i can't drink that.

-ALSO...."Hmmm...Don't ever stretch or warmup before lifting any "significant amount of weight," (being that you probably never will on this new diet), and never spend any money on supplements that really WILL make a difference on hypertrophy and performance."

I lost 30+ lbs of fat eating a pound of beef (80/20) and 6-8 eggs a day.

the cheeseburger debate has gone out of control.

I'm putting Karma on the fried chicken diet instead.
