Well, first of all most people want to have an enjoyable life. Sitting around watching some douche play video games isn't too exciting. Second, most women *do* have friends unless they are really, really screwed up or married to some stalker. So they care what other people think of the dude(s) they are involved with. Most people in general are highly self-conscious.
