Like it or not, stuff like this is here, and it's not going away.

However, this time is NEVER different. There's ALWAYS changes. Those who adapt and use the changes to their benefit usually thrive. Those who don't embrace changes, and always wish things were the way they used to be don't usually do so well.
My problem isn't getting it... that I am fine with.

My problem is that I don't like the shift from social interaction to technological interaction. I do text, so at least that much I do embrace. It's more of a personal reliance on certain social media apps.

You'd think you were stabbing someone in the face if you told them they had no access to any of it for a period of over 3 days. What once was a novelty is almost a necessity to the point where social etiquette is completely being rewritten into something new.

For anyone under the age of 21, this is probably not understandable but I am having a hard time dealing with this shift.

A red flag five years ago would be anyone checking their phone at any point of time in a social interaction. Now, it seems to be the norm.

What you are essentially telling me is that I have to loosen up and let things evolve organically and me along with them? I get that men have been putting up with all kinds of challenges... but is this technology challenge just isolating us even more and creating shorter attention spans and a greater form of narcissism?

Well, there really is only three ways to deal with it. It's up to each person to figure out the best for them.

1) Only date girls that are not dependent on devices. You might try your local Amish community.

2) Try and force girls you're dating to NOT refer to devices any time you're around. This can be done if you have super strong boundaries, always stick to your guns and are of incredibly high value. Generally speaking this is more trouble than it's worth, especially if your targets are in their twenties.

3) Accept it and figure out how to deal with it, in whatever way that works.

Pretty much. This is just one element in a perfect storm of an anti-game phenomenon that's just gonna get worse and worse.

But guess what? Lotsa people are still getting laid. Maybe even more than before smart phones were invented.

If you listen to evolutionary biologists and psychologists, our beings are still in the era of men chasing mastodons across the velet with pointed sticks while women preserve a base to come home to.

Technology has almost always outrun our ability to acclimate to it. Not so long ago, teenagers, particularly girls monopolized the single house phone to the point that no one else could call out or in.

Is our current situation really so different?

Put on your big jew kippa and ask your rabbi why menstrual blood is horribly unclean but sucking blood from the freshly mutilated d*cks of babies is kosher. Hopefully his convoluted talmudic explanation will be long enough to keep you away from this board for a few weeks.

lol this was a pleasant surprise

I'm with ya, Kailex, but you can't really fight the world. You just next those bıtches that are on the phone the whole time while they're with you and you push forward to the next one, hoping that she's a little more illuminated.

Hey, look at it this way...when you do get the one that doesn't have the phone epoxied to her hand, at least you'll know she's a notch above the previous ones you dumped. It's using technology like your very own shıt test.

The fact that there are two separate conversations is mostly my fault, samspade, but I embrace that fact.

I do like the views brought by both sides of the argument as to whether we should shun it... or to exploit it.

I like that frame of thinking. I think that's one I can agree on.
I think my mindset has been that it was a crutch, an advantage I didn't need to use years ago, but now it's almost a necessity.

As to taiyuu's point... I have dated women who know when to put away a phone, but he's not far off from the reality that it's pretty much an Amish community that'll be what's left in the next 5 years or so. As cheekish as that comment may be, it rather rings true.

I guess this is why I brought this point here, because I knew maybe there'd be a silver lining to this situation.

I guess it's a "DJ" way to adapt, evolve, and maybe even exploit whatever the next "thing" might be. I can dig that. I can dig all of that.

Good chat gents, I love it.

The Amish point reminds me of wanting a woman who is a virgin. Maybe not letting them have smartphones helps to maintain their virginity.

It doesn't matter if it's a cellphone, magazine, television, or whatever.

This type of behaviour is just disrespectful and rude.

I've been on a date where the chick started playing on her phone and I stood up and left. She chased me down and apologized.

If you want respect from someone be it man or woman, demand it. Do it with your actions, not words. It is yours for the taking. Simply accept nothing less. That is how you GET respect!

If you actually believe that every every woman/person in the world is disrespectful in this way then that is YOUR problem. If you allow others to disrespect you then that is what will happen. Don't blame technology or even society. It could be anything. It's your problem to fix.

For example...

I work for an organization where there are a lot of big wigs walking around thinking they are above everyone else. The other day I had to discuss an important issue with one of these guys. I saw him approaching in the hall and I began walking towards him. As we met I stopped and began speaking. He continued on past me expecting me to turn and follow him like a little puppy dog looking for attention. I simply stopped talking in mid sentence and began walking in the other direction. He called back to me "Is there a problem?" I stopped turned and just looked at him for a moment with a serious look. After a decent pause I replied "Yep" and I just stood there. Then it was HE who turned and began walking towards me and we met again and stopped and had the discussion. I didn't have to call him out on his rude behaviour he figured it out right away that I wouldn't accept it. Plain and simple example of demanding respect without even saying a word. In fact if I did call him out on it I would ASKING for respect which doesn't work.

Demand respect through your actions!

In total agreement with Kailex. Look up the atomization of societies, that's what is happening in the Western world as we speak. If you go through history and study great civilizations that fell into ruin, you'll notice that they all were swallowed up in narcissism and hedonism before the hammer fell.

I made this point in another thread recently:

Yeah this. This perpetual IV drip of attention whoring and ego validation is going to have serious repercussions. Relationships will be impossible to maintain, let alone marriages. When there's no families, there's no civilization. Hypergamy unleashed and uncontained, flowing like water in every direction.

Everybody wants to join the party but at what cost? It is all fun and games until the chickens come home to roost.
