I was at that event, the best fight was easily Poirier against Chandler, that was just an insane one. I got to see Izzy and Alex and it had shades of Usman vs Edwards. Seems like 2022 is not the year for Nigerians! Izzy was winning comfortably before the final round but then Alex just sort of exploded. One thing that stuck out to me is that Izzy was not fighting in his element when he decided to take Alex down.
My take on the MW decision is that whoever can wrestle well is going to hold that belt for a long time. IMO, Khamzat is the future of that division until Bo Nickal comes in. The division has no real wrestling threat in it and even Whittaker was able to push Izzy to the limit in their second fight by utilizing some wrestling.
Had a lot of respect for Izzy though, dude grew on me overtime and he was a chill champ. However, I do not see him or Alex dominant for long once a good grappler comes into the situation. As of right now, the division is Khamzat's for the taking. In a few years, Khamzat vs Bo Nickal might end up being the Jon Jones vs DC of the Middleweights.
