actually he's right about that, it's pretty much a well known fact that any advice that comes from women about women should be taken with a truck full of salt, most women say things that are the opposite of true (no woman says i want a guy who's going to break my heart when he gets bored after 3 months of banging, but guys like that get laid all the time, so who's having sex with them?)

If a girl cooks for you, she has invested in you. If she spends money on you, if she spends time on you... anything that requires an effort of her, is an investment. By letting her do this, she will value you higher. There are a lot of other ways to nurture a relationship. For example look into this answer of Acturus

It's not really closed minded if it's based on years of real life experience which actually reflects the truth of that statement. It's true in the majority of cases that the advice of a woman based on what you should do, usually reflects on what would make "her feel good" in that moment. So the female giving the advice is projecting what would serve her (the advice giver) best or make her (the advice giver) "feel good". But thinking what will make you feel good......in this case "invite her for dinner" and "get to know her as a person" are projecting your personal choices and needs to be validated as a person and be treated with respect...........they have nothing to do with what may build attraction or interest......

.....and we haven't even considered how female tendency towards gender bias would potentially pollute any advice. Of course there are exceptions, but very few and far between. You can recognize the few exceptions with the words they use.

Now, some may view your little accusation of insecurity as a neat little attempt at shaming, all because the bad man had an opposing point of view which didn't fit into your world view. That may actually come across as insecure too....
