Because men need to learn how to be confident without being under the influence. You can't stay drunk your whole life, 24/7. If you don't face your fears of approaching women (without alcohol) you will NEVER get over them and will not improve. Also, it sets you apart from all the other men.
I would agree - Certainly from the gambling point of view. I don't play the tables that often but I do find I do a lot worse when I'm playing drunk or tired.
Which of course is quite probably why the casinos here all have late bars and later opening hours than any club.
And there may be another advantage in that it makes the night much cheaper, so you can get out more?
I have to watch what I drink for medical reasons (can drink but not regularly), so I've never had a problem going out and staying sober.
