Robert Greene. I know almost everything about this damn book but I still haven't read it!

Anthony, tell me how good it is.

If you haven't bought the book, here's a nice preview site which sums up every chapter:

The 48 Laws of Power

Later.

Darkdream did a great job with the parallels to the DJ infomation here and tactics listed in the book. And I remembered many myself while reading it. But I think it is important that you read it yourself, because you will make many associations that can be applied to your own unique life.

If the principles outlined here seem vague or somewhat random, they will crystalize when you read the many references to history, Fables and other symbolism detailed in this book, and the reasoning behind the methods.

As with anything, it should be taken with a grain of salt, and to take what is useful to you and the rest discarded (I still wouldn't try to sell someone swampland even after reading this book).

Boy, I checked out that site, I'm glad I saved my eyes from reading it online, I found it for cheap at a bookstore. Hey, speaking of which, gives me a reason to go to the bookstore and pick up "the Prince" and see if I can pick up someone there as well

If your going to read the 48 laws of power as insight into the DJ mindset, you should without question get the Art of Seduction by the same author. I highly recommend both books

The book teaches you to be a selfish deceitful person..
Yes but in a way, that gets below the radar of 98% of all people.
But a girl worth going for is likely to be among the 2%

I've read it before, and I had a lot of problems with it. I was in fact discussing it with a friend just last week. Some of the worst laws I've seen:

7. Get others to work for you, but take the credit.
Yes, but only if you make sure NOBODY finds out. To be known as a "credit-thief" loses you friends and associates very quickly. However, its not really a wise move; whoever did the work is bound to find out, and then rumours spread.

12.Use selective honesty and generosity to disarm your victim.
This implies you only be honest and generous when you have a 'victim'. I think your ENTIRE personality should present honesty and generosity - not just when you have to backstab someone. Remember that Stalin used to give food to a local family every week.

17.Keep others in suspended terror: Cultivate an air of unpredictability.
By doing this, you are not setting pre-defined limitations, and it could result in dissatisfied employees (if you happen to be a manager or executive). I certainly don't want to work with/under someone who could get me fired for no particular reason. Most intelligent people prefer to know the limits which you set. Even "Chainsaw" Al and Jack Welch set clear limits.

The worst annoyance I have with the book is the naive tone it was written in, as if following all 48 laws is that simple.

The best advice I ever got was "Always examine the advice of those who are all talk and no action". Robert Greene doesn't have any sort of credentials to back his words; if he followed his own advice, he should either be wealthier than Bill Gates, or at least in some powerful position in business or government. And he wouldn't be sharing his secrets until retirement either =)

People like Robert Kiyosaki, Jack Welch, Deng Xiao Ping, etc have written works, backed up by their achievements. "Walk the talk", I believe, is a common American expression to describe it.

diplomatic i would have to agree with you. based from the above laws, it treats your life like the whole world is against you. that sort of extreme negativity will get you no where in life and will make you more enemies than allies.

though some of the law i would have to agree.

to put it simply, dont follow those above laws too seriously. Enjoy life.

Something i've learned is this; if you have the opportunity to get ahead, but it hurts someone else think about doing it. BUT if you have the opportunity to help yourself and others DO IT

The 48 laws of power is actually called "The 48 laws of being an @sshole"

It is very useful to be applied in life in general.

But when it comes to seduction and etc, can it be used????

For example : Use selective honesty and generosity to disarm your victim.

If this law can be applied to dating, then buying lots of gifts for women will be a good thing to do. Hmm......

The Prince by Machiavelli

The book is for ruthless, powerhungry megalomaniacs who want NOTHING to get in their way until they reach the pinnacle of the world. I don't think I'm that greedy nor obssessed.
