I heard of some guys getting some elbow pain/soreness from certain lifts, they ended up getting some elbow sleeves when training and said it has helped. Just a thought..

Hey Fug,

How have you been!

MMA is going well. I'm only a month into it. The gym i go to focuses on Muay Thai, Wrestling, and BJJ. There is also a class that incorporates all 3 into the class and we don't have sparring until we've reached the 201 level. I've only had time to take muay thai, and MMA. i will be going to my first BJJ class Friday and will aim to go to one of each a week. Classes are pretty hard intensity wise but i'm in good enough shape to make it through (lifting before class definitely doesn't help but i gotta get it in because i have a tight schedule).

Today - back, shoulders and Biceps

pullups bw+30lbsx5 + 1 rep at bw, 3 sets
barbell back rows 95lbsx10, 3 sets
deadlifts 95lbsx10, 2 sets (back was injured so i started light)
hammer dumbbell curls 50lbsx3, 47.5lbsx3, 45lbsx3, 42.5lbsx3, 40lbsx4, 35lbsx6
Shrugs 70lbsx6, 50lbsx10 (i ran out of time and my forearms were pretty done)

I haven't been to the gym in 3 months mainly because my membership expired and we moved offices. I was going to a nice gym for about $65 a month but the cheapest gym around my area is $75 a month and the gym is a lot worse. On top of that they were charging initiation and processing fee's which frustrated me. I've been applying for new jobs before i commit to a gym so i hope i get a new job soon. I do pushups and pull-ups at home now and then just to slow down my muscle decomposition.

On a bad note, i was playing basketball 2 weeks ago and so one fvcked up my knee pretty had and i've been limping and having horrible issues with my knee since the 2 weeks. I may need surgery. My company was also just bought by a private equity firm so our benefits are all changing and i need to hold off on seeing a doctor until i get my new benefits info.

Hey Buddy good to see you're posting again.

Dam that sucks about the injury and you must live in a ritzy area. Expensive gym prices. Negotiate with them. Say, "I'll join now for ____ bucks a month." The worst they can say is "no." I could care less if someone's insulted by my low-ball offer.

Keep up the good work and keep posting here. I appreciate your persistence in doing pushups and pullups from home. Those alone can take you a long way.
I'm around the NYC area and i work in manhattan. I'm looking for a chain gym so i can go to multiple locations if i move into the city. I just got a new job so it looks like i might be moving into the city soon. My old gym with our corporate discount was $65 a month. It was NYHRC. NYSC which is a step down from NYHRC was charging $75 with initiation fee's mainly because we had a better discount at NYHRC. Hopefully this company will have corporate gym discounts otherwise i might just sign up for a NYHRC.

Crunch is about the same as NYHRC and bally's in the city is just a sh1t hole. We don't have any LA Fitness's over here but even back home, that gym is getting overcrowded and dirty. Might just be me getting used to the New York life.

Since i've quit my job and been back home for a little over a week now, i'm a lot less stressed out and enjoy my time. Have been steadily working on my business and since i don't have membership to a gym for the moment, i just do pull-ups, push-ups, body weight squats, and run.

Ran my first mile for time in a long time for about 6:43. Ran my next mile for time a few days later for 6:21. Not bad but not great as i've been low 5 minutes before but then again, my body doesn't feel tip top shape. Got a big gut that i can never seem to get rid of.

I would've thought gyms in NY would be a lot more expensive. 65 is relatively cheap. That's how much i pay for the gym i go to. If the gym is nice, clean and in a great location, it would make sense for the price to be like that.

You can also try doing dips. They are a great exercise for chest/triceps.

If you are consistently running and exercising, you might have to evaluate your diet. There should be no reason for you to have a gut, if you are consistently doing those things.

@ Ronaldo

It's definitely the diet as i've said many times. My job involves entertaining a lot of clients so i drink a lot for that and my co workers also drink a lot. I compensate to stay relatively in shape (besides my gut) by working my a$$ off.

$65 was corporate discount. I think general membership is $105 a month for that gym and i was going to equinox which i had my friends employee discount for $90 a month when general membership is around $175 for single club access.

Not sure where you're at paying $65…..sounds like you're over-paying.

Laying off the alcohol will definitely help you tremendously. I don't think you necessarily have to drink to entertain a client when you go out. Stating your intention to better yourself (In this case it would be your physical condition) is always commendable.

The gym i go to is in a very exclusive part of the city. It is also very clean and has the ideal atmosphere i want. Most people that go there do it for the social connotation. It gives me basically a free gym to workout and not have to wait for people and other annoying hassles. I can always finish in under an hour. There are other gyms that have waiting lines to use equipment.

been running every other day a mile for time or sprints up to a mile and i can't seem to get past 6:21. Will continue working at this since it's really only been a few weeks. I'll also try to increase my distance as my fatigue level is really high for running 1 mile.

I actually run quite a bit and have completed 3 tough mudders (10-13 mile obstacle courses) and also run a few 5k's under 21 minutes.

My body just doesn't recover as well as it used to and my knees also feel very weak. I do rest my legs every other day so not sure why this is the case. Ran another 1 mile and clocked in at 6:39…..very frustrating.

As for track, I don't really have any tracks close by so i do quarter mile sprints and then jog 1/8 a mile and then do another quarter mile sprint and jog 1/8 mile until i finish 4 quarter mile sprints.

One crappy thing is since i moved back home to work on my startup after a full 2 weeks of working out, i get dragged into NYC and spending like 4-6 days with the GF and have no time to work out which brings me back to square one.

Finished 2 miles with a few seconds of walking at 15:42. Not horrible but not great, averaging 7:51 per mile.

Ran a few more 1 miles at 6:26, and 6:35. I'm upping my distance now to minimum of 3 miles per run.

still running every other day up to 3 miles. I will be cutting down every run now to taper as i have 1 week left to break 6 minutes for my mile to win the $100 bet.

I've also been doing a lot of pushups and pull-ups as i don't have access to a gym. i do about 125 pushups a day about once a week and about 80 pull-ups a day once a week.

Hey AAA,

You can do pushups every other day. Do you do pushups for chest or for arms? Break them up between 15-20 and do various sets. I guarantee you that you will see drastic improvements. Same with pull-ups. You could also incorporate dips as well. Good work.

Ran a mile in 6:08 on saturday. I have until thursday this week to break 6 minutes otherwise i lose the bet.

@ronaldo

I do break my push ups and pull ups into 15-20 over sets. My shoulder injury can't handle constant pressure and that's why i don't do pushups all the time.

Well done. Sacrifice will always yield the subsequent reward.
