Very small volume already selling at 10x-20x of ico price. not really anything definitive as it's clearly people trying to manipulate the price up. I see ridiculous lowball offers as well.

How the heck do you store it and sell it if you want?

Watch this video. It's somewhat similar except most ICO's haven't required the contract part that i've participated. They just require you to send to an address.

This ICO has closed, but the process is still relatively the same.

If you follow the video and the instructions from AdEx, you might be able to still get in, in a few hours. This is assuming you are qualified to participate.

Thanks my good friend! Very informative. I'll definitely keep an eye out on upcoming ICOs. I got my wallet set and I'm ready to rock n roll. This is the future of technology. Can't miss this boom.

Anytime. We can all make it. Just be careful out there. It's the wild wild west and you don't want to leave yourself vulnerable to get shot by an arrow because you didn't protect yourself.

+Exchange wallet --> Hot Wallet --> Hardware/paper wallet.
+Do not leave funds you are not willing to lose in the exchange.
+Protect your private keys at all costs.
+double/triple check wallet addresses
+always start with a small test send to confirm wallet address and receipt
+be VERY discriminating towards all coin/tokens and companies in this space. Many scammers.
+take profits as often as possible

Let me know how that goes. When is the price originally set on the coin and how soon can you sell?

Coinbase seems to be working now. Spread some funds across BTC, LTC and ETH.

Until I learn more I'll continue with monthly dollar cost average drip feeds.

Once I have the knowledge, time and inclination I may choose to gain more exposure. Right now its fixed at 3% of investment capital.

Good thread AAAgent. Keep it up.

Most ICO's are done on the ethereum platform for the most part. Most people send their Ethereum to myetherwallet and then wait for details to be released on the instructions from the company that is launching the ICO. Generally they will tell you the smart contract address you can send your ETH to, how much you need to send for any relevant discounts or bonuses if there are any, and then how to generate the token symbol in myetherwallet.

Sometimes, a company will ICO and not even send tokens until X date. So basically you are sending your ETH in hopes that you get your tokens. I am still waiting on my populous tokens which should be issued on 7/9/2017. There are already buys for PPT at 10x+ but obviously no sell orders.

Once you receive the tokens, you just have to wait till larger centralized exchanges list the tokens, which can take weeks to months. There are many shady exchanges so be careful.

Selling can be as quick as a few days after the ICO or months. They usually list on decentralized exchanges like Etherdelta almost immediately but it's very not user friendly.

Eth will continue to have crazy swings because of ICO's. Invest what your stomach can handle.

BTC seems to be heading the way of wealth storage similar to gold so stash these away safely.

LTC will is looking more and more like the way of transacting. Segwite/lightning to come in the future will be super fast transaction and very low fees. I would probably expect LTC to increase in value very quickly.

I see all rising higher and higher.

Exchanges 101 - How to buy with USD/Bank Accounts/Credit Cards

Buying Bitcoin sounds very confusing and scary. It's even worse when you tell someone they can buy Ethereum just as easily as Bitcoin. Here's a 101 on how to use your US Dollars/local currency to buy Bitcoin/Ethereum and then get into the crypto currency space and some background info to help you understand. Remember to do your own research and confirm everything said here. The crypto space is very very wild wild west-ish and there are tons of scammers out there.

In our modern day and age, the USD is king. Most countries take USD or allow you to convert USD into local currency. It's also known as the global reserve currency. Bitcoin is similar in this aspect as Bitcoin is king in the crypto currency space. Almost all 800+ crypto currencies are traded in terms of BTC. Ethereum is roughly 10 to 1 BTC. LTC is roughly 60 to 1 BTC. Other coins are fractions of a BTC. A majority of the alternative coins (Alt coins) require you to buy them via BTC. You can't buy them in USD or any other local currency you use to transact on a daily basis. They most likely take BTC only or ETH.

Well that makes it confusing if you don't even know how to buy BTC/ETH, how are you supposed to buy any of those ALT Coins that are going bonkers and returning 5x, 10x, 20x+?

First Step (USD Exchanges)

There are a handful of USD exchanges that allow you to use your USD's and buy BTC/ETH. Below are 3 somewhat trust worthy exchanges that have a decent amount of adoption within the crypto space. If you'd like to get started in crypto currency investing or trading, you can register with any or one of the exchanges (I have registered with all). They each normally have a Know Your Customer (KYC) policy that requires multiple buys over time to really verify you aren't a scammer, using stolen cards, etc in order to increase buying limits. Initially your buy limits might be lower than you'd like, but if you go through the verification process or make consistent buys over time, your limits will increase. You can link your bank account and credit cards to these exchanges. Uploading your ID's allow unlocking of higher buying limits and selling limits. Once your accounts are setup, you can purchase your BTC or ETH's on these exchanges. I personally like Coinbase and Gemini. I'm still waiting on Kraken to increase my buy limit for over a month now! Coinbase customer service is known to be bad, but they have the best user interface which makes it very easy to understand how to buy. They also have a mobile phone app as well. Remember, buying and selling does not have to be in full solid number amounts. You can buy 0.23 BTC or 2.38 ETH. You can also sell in fractional amounts as well so buy what you are comfortable with.

Gemini

Second Step (Crypto only exchanges)

Now that you have your BTC and ETH, you want to play with the big boys and trade or invest in Alt Coins. If you read my previous wallet post, and have downloaded your wallet, you should be familiar with sending your coins off exchanges. You will need to do a similar thing but instead of sending it to a wallet for storage, you will be sending your BTC or ETH to an exchange to buy and sell other Alt Coins/Crypto currency. There are many many exchanges, so I will not list them all, I will just focus on the most popular ones. You must first sign-up and create an account on these exchanges, like you did with the USD exchanges. Once your account is created, you'll need to go to the wallet pages, and find your BTC wallet or ETH wallet on the exchange. Once you find the wallet address for your BTC or ETH, you'll want to send a test amount to the wallet. BTC transactions take a bit longer FYI. Once you have confirmed that the exchange has received your BTC and ETH and they are showing up in your wallet, you can now go to buy other currencies/alt coins. Remember, the alt coins are generally traded in terms of BTC or ETH, most of the time the value of BTC and ETH will be far greater than the alt coins on a 1:1 basis so you'll always see coins valued in fractions of BTC or ETH. 1 ETH could be work 0.0055 of XYZ coin.

Poloniex

Bittrex

Third Step (How to exchange your Alt Coins back into Cash)

Now that you've bought a few alt coins, and hopefully made some profit by selling them and getting back more BTC or ETH than what you originally bought in for, how do you actually cash out. Just do the reverse of what you did you buy those coins. Sell your alt coins back for BTC/ETH. Once the BTC/ETH gets back into the crypto exchange respective wallets, you'll want to send your BTC/ETH from crypto exchange back to USD exchange. Look for your Coinbase/Gemini/Kraken BTC or ETH wallet address. Once again, send a small test amount to confirm it is the correct amount. Once that test amount is received, send the rest. Once you receive the full amount of BTC and ETH that you want to sell, sell them back to USD on the USD exchanges. Deposit the USD (if this step is necessary) back into your bank account and now you've made money from investing/trading in alt coins!

Hoping coinbase will increase my buy limit soon. The more I educate myself the more I realise cryptocurrency is definitely here to stay.

The question is how much of these market can these currencies dominate?

The issue is that blockchain is what seems to be valuable moreso than BTC specifically.

Regardless will keep on investing till I hit the 3% speculative buy limit with a view to reinvest profits up to max of 10% of investment capital.

@AAAgent any links with details on BTC mining technology? If you've already mentioned it in this thread it's cool.

They will dominate all the markets. I didn't want to do a cloud mining post yet as I thought it would be overwhelming for anyone following me since it seems like you guys haven't even gotten wallets yet. I will write one up soon.

Try Gemini exchange.

Exodus is very popular and secure. A lot of people were using Jaxx before and until the last glitch where some people hacked them, they were secure as well. They have supposedly fixed the glitch. I'd stick with Exodus.

If you want Alternative coins (alt coins), you need to buy from Bittrex or Poloniex. I'm still waiting approval on Kraken so I would not recommend it. Over 1 month to send my USD in.
I'm using Exodus and it looks great and easy to understand. Transferred some funds from coinbase to Exodus. But how exactly do I get the funds from Exodus directly to a bank account? Or is this not possible?

Exodus is just for storage. You do not cash out from Exodus. Read my exchange post as it's very similar cashing out from wallet as it is cashing out from crypto only exchange. You got to send back to your USD exchange in order to cash out.

I assume you are only using coinbase so you can currently only cash out via coinbase to your bank.

Ad Ex. I'm getting in this ICO tomorrow. Hopefully doesn't sell out in minutes. Did prelim research and it looks good. Team decent. Concept decent. Currently, your ads are decided by the sites you visit and you are automatically tagged by every site and that data sold off in chunks to analytics companies who sell that data to ad exchanges to determine your customer profile. You are then served ads based off different exchange pools and the information they have on you. THey piece together all the data until they confirm it's you and you get spammed.

Ad Ex basically lets you create your own profile of what your interests are and you can receive only ads you are interested in. Does similar things to BAT but allows users to create their own profile. Also is already partnered with STremio and focuses on video.
Essentially these ICOs are just tech companies looking to raise cash? So the only difference between these and a traditional IPO is the medium of exchange, the lower costs and the ease of access. Essentially it's crowdfunding with cryptocurrency. Right?

To the idiots still thinking the stock market, bonds, real estate right now are great investments, here's Robert Kiyosaki calling you all idiots. I agree with him.
