This is a tip for all you fledgling Don Juans that may still be grappling with confidence issues. You more seasoned DJs may find this helpful as well.
Let’s say that you are at home sitting on your sofa watching a rerun of Family Ties. Next, imagine that a gorgeous, b*tchy-looking 9.5 is standing in your living room about five feet away, just waiting to be DJed. In a bar or a club, many of us would have at least some initial apprehension in approaching her. But in this theoretical situation, would you really be all that intimidated?
NO! She’s in YOUR house on YOUR turf! I wouldn’t give a flying f*ck if she was Cindy Crawford. I’d get up, walk past my coffee table, glance at all the familiar oil paintings hanging on my wall, and easily start a conversation. I’d get her number, and eventually bang her. Being in very familiar surroundings gives me CONFIDENCE and a sense of CONTROL.
Too bad we all can’t have beautiful women just materialize in our own living rooms. That would make things so much easier. How could one go about extending this logic in real situations?
Pick three or four of you favorite bars and/or clubs and turn them into your living room—Your CASTLE. Go to these places often. Visit them two or three times a week. After you get off work, just go to one of ‘your’ bars for a quick drink. Don’t try to DJ a chick. Just go there and become familiar with the place. Notice the wood on the dance floor. Notice the lovely patterns they chose for the carpeting. Know which of the bar stools has an uneven leg. Wouldn’t you know which chair in your dining room had an uneven leg?
Most importantly, get to know the staff and clientele. Address them by their first names. Make them a part of your family. They’ll always be on your side and they’ll always have your back. One time I even had the bartender 86 a chick just because she was so b*tchy! You should have seen the look on her face.
When a hot chick walks in your bar, if you’ve made it YOUR bar, you should be much more at ease. It doesn’t matter how hot she is because she’s on your turf.
If I decide that a chick is worthy enough, I may buy her a drink. I’ll say to the bartender “Joe, get me a Cosmopolitan for <her name>.” He’ll respond “No problem, Capitol. Coming right up.” This also gives her the impression that I have many connections and it gives me a certain degree of power and mystique.
Just remember: You’ll find confidence in what you know well. Extend the comfort zone of your living room to other places, and you’ll always have an edge.
