A little advice to get a noob started

I'd like to get out and try some rapid-fire practice in asking for a few numbers, but I've never actually made an approach before. I know, I know, guys, action trumps armchair theorizing! I want to get some real experience ASAP, but the lack of any kind of decent "script" has been holding me back.

What would you guys suggest for a nice short script to just get the number or the rejection quick? Like, say, "Hey I was running to meet a friend, but I think you're really hot. Could I get your number?" I'm just looking for a few decent scripts like that to try at the mall for practice. I'd like to get used to the inevitable rejections, as I know this is a numbers game.

More importantly even, how is a number typically given out? Do girls usually have something to write it on for you? Would they type it into your cell phone? Should I carry a notepad and pen in my pocket? I haven't been worried about the rejections so much as I've been concerned about getting a yes to the request, only to awkwardly have no way for the girl to actually give her number.

I don't think there's any 'magic potion' that can help you. But try to use your imagination and playfulness. I quickly brainstormed the following:

"Hi, you look cute. Can i have your digits?"

She will certainly say no and give you a really weird look. This is 'crash and burn' - id use this just to make sure i don't get any surprises. You will know the outcome and this will reduce your anxiety. Then follow up:

"Awwww, that's too bad.. We'd make such a great couple."

Now she will probably ask you why you think that or atleast give you a puzzled look. Your reply:

"Well, we're both kinda shy aren't we?"

Now youre teasing her. And this is the idea. I'd normaly say good luck but to you i wish good balls.

id say the best thing to say is a simple HI...judgin from the response you will know whether to stay and chat or not..about the numbers i usually hand them my phone and TELL Them to type em digits..that has never let me down for 2 years now
