I went to this place for the first time and didn't know that they have a goth club night every week. 90% of the people inside dressed up in black, with a domination theme. (I frankly thought they looked like people from The Matrix)...

I'm not into goth, but I wouldn't mind dressing up all in black. Do you think different DJ skills are required in such a "specialized"/niche place?

For the most part, girls are girls. You'll have to dress the part for a goth chick to really dig you though. Break out the black nail polish, the white makeup, eyeliner, dye your hair black, and get a trench coat. ;)

I personally don't think much of the whole goth scene or the people who embrace it.

Chewy's suggestion would work, but it's a little extreme... You don't need to crank up the makeup etc. Just go for an alternative look, preferably black. And DJ as normal. I loooove goth chicks :D

a question to add

I dig goth chicks, but I dress more the preppy look. Just curious, after you dress the goth part, pick up the goth chick, then what. Are you gonna go by a new wardrobe? Personally I wouldn't take it to far, play the part somewhat, but are you gonna try to keep this persona up?

My experience on "goth" clubs is that i don't bother with any DJ skills while i'm there.

I've been a few times cause some of my friends are into that kind of thing. & the 1st time i went i was just laughing my head off the whole time. All the walls were black, everyone was wearing black.. except me in my nice white shirt & cream coloured trousers.

I looked around i was amazed at how many groups of people were sat at tables NOT SAYING a word to each other. & there were a few people standing at the sides of the place on their own the WHOLE night.

..& when people started dancing i was almost on the floor with laughter. EVERY single person did EXACTLY the same 'dance'. They all played air guitar (without changing chourd once) while banging their heads.

It occured to me that the kind of people who go to these places are 'losers'. I hate to say it, but really!
& to make matters worse, THEY claim they're rebelling against comformity & becoming a sheep to society when they're doin' it even more than anyone else!!!

So, when i go i go for the cheap drinks & wear what I want, just make a statement really. I have a laugh while i'm there, but no way would i dream of trying any DJ skills in a place like that.. i have more respect for myself than that..

One approach is to go in looking different.

I used to go to Goth shows to visit my goth friends , dressed in the clothes I'd wear to see a hardcore band. It makes you stand out , and look really 'alpha' because you have the stones to show up in total disregard of the dress code.

It's a very tight scene

I happen to go to a fair number of goth shows (I like some of the music), though I don't go for a straight-out goth look, so I have good info:

It's a tight scene. Goth chicks will rarely give the time of day to anyone who does not fit into the scene -- unless they are very distinctive/artsy and/or "bad boy" in their look. It's an extremely conformist scene in its own odd way.

The "normal" gals that venture into goth clubs are also looking for a "bad boy."

If you go to a goth club looking like a punk or biker you might do all right. But otherwise forget it if you don't look like all the other guys there.

Here's a funny little story...

It's a little off topic but it's funny anyhow. Me and my friend were at a Taco Bell when 3 three guys come up and ask for directions to an alternative nightclub I think about it, then I give them directions to Perdition which is Gothic Nightclub, and these poor saps are loving the fact they would go downtown to a hot alternative nightclub only to arrive at Hell's Door itself. -lol- me and my friend weren't there when they came back to Taco Bell, looking for us a little pissed off.

Yeah I love the way these guys dress all "Angsty-rejection-of-conventional-boringnorms-of-straight-society" and then spend all night hanging out outside Burger King.

I know some goth people. They try way too hard to come off as werid and different by saying contraversial things like 'i eat babies' or comment about how they sacrafice goats and stuff.

And i know two people who bought some baby clothes and covered it in fake blood and put it in a crowded shopping mall, which they found hilairious. everyone else just found this pathetic.

If I was up your ass you'd know
goths irritate me. how could people want to look so ugly? I got real drunk one night and stumbled into a Dee's at 3 AM, only to find it full of goths. Being my drunk, beligerant self decided I would see if any of these nutless biatches would dare say **** to me. So extremely loud, and im sure i slurred cuz I was so drunk, yelled "looks like a korn concert up in this mother fvcker" and continued to make comments about goths, maryln manson and and all of them being mother fvckers, surely came off like an ass hole but didn't care. they are all spineless, nutless, biatches with to much metal, zippers, and spikes on their clothing. Oh and for any fat, pasty white goths that read this, stop wearing that see through net material ****, no one wants to see your pasty white fat ass, and as for those huge pants you are just wasting natural resources cuz I could make 3 pairs out of those things. ok, end of rant.

Hey, I know some goths. I think there's two kinds, the adult kind who are just having a bit of fun and the high school kids who are trying to be "rebellious" or whatever. It's not too accurate to lump them all together.

Goths are quite possibly the nicest people around. They are usually very sensitive kids who feel out of place. Some are damn hot too. I agree, I feel sorry for the drunk moron who dissed all those goths at the club. Spoken like a true 18-year old kid with too much time on his hands. A true DJ has no time nor capacity for hate in his life.

There's this goth club in Manhattan which is one of the few meat markets I actually enjoy. I only dress in my usual "Band T-shirt and jeans" ensemble. My success rate at closing HBs there is about 75% and climbing. I just act the way I do at any other scene: approach HBs with a friendly grin and back off from those that act cold or don't speak English good.
