Out of nowhere my moms friend whos a pediatrician comes up to me and tells me im going to be eating out of a straw if I keep eating this much protien, take a multivitamin and take fish oil pills. I take a men's one a day multivitamin, I have the daily dosage of 2 pills for the fish oil pills like it says to do. She said that I don't need more than 60g protien a day any more will have my liver destroyed by 25 lol. I tried to explain that 200g a day which is my current, now that I cut out alot of extra stuff, is safe and vitamins are necissary to have with the intensity I train, I don't do into like 300% daily doses or anything, like 100-200% for everything, and 200 is like vitamin C etc. Also she says a gallon of water a day is extremelly too much and thats when I just laughed and said ok and left. Is anything she said true, b/c I want to show her that just b/c the FDA or w/e says I only need 60g of protien a day it's not necissarily true.

60 g of protein keeps you alive and functioning. Doctors are not educated about hypertrophy, they will always tell you the BARE minimum of food and nutrition you need to stay alive.

Do yourself a favor and get a real multi-vitamin...aka vitaminsoppe's ULTIMATE MAN ELITE 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon, other than that everything you are doing is on point.

She might have the slightest bit of a point if she said kidneys but since she said liver she obviously has no idea whatsoever what she's talking about, which is why I tend to avoid doctors except to get tests done or when i need types of surgeries.

It gets really old having to educate professionals in their own line of work.

Has your mum's friend ever set foot in a weights gym? Or touched a barbell? I doubt it. In my experience it is better not to tell people about the lifting lifestyle as usually its the same old s***.

My brothers friend has a weight problem. He's been going to the doctor's for a few years and has put on a stone or something like that. He's getting so frustrated with it all he has began asking me for advice. You know what the dietitian's advice was for him to put on weight? Carbs, carbs, and more carbs.
I've now set him on the right track telling him to can at least 12 eggs a day and get as much beef as he can get, coupled with introducing himself slowly into weights. Moral of the story, docs are trolls when it comes to weightlifting, strength, putting on weight.

P.s.-You need to up your fish oil dosage to minimum 10g a day. Preferably 20-40.

Liver :kick:

This friend is a PEDIATRICIAN. NOT a exercise scientist, exercise physiologist or any of the like. SHE DEALS WITH KIDS AND BABIES.

Dont listen to a word she says.

Its like Doctors. You go in, and they tell you to exercise, but they DO NOT know anything (for the most part) about what we do, or what we (as in profession wise) are trained on.

So anytime anyone from a field other than this tries to feed you crap, ignore it.

Tell me about the education part. I use to have high school kids come and tell me their Dr said creatine will screw them up. Then I had to educate them, so they could tell their Doctor, or give them loads of studies so they could take it back.

Just cause your a Dr doesn't mean you know everything, and I HATE THIS. They put it in their name, and then they become experts in every field.

I had trained some old people once, and the guy was doing the ab deal that you sit in and crunch forward. I asked why he did it, and he said...

My Doctor said that if I do so many of these, that i'll lose some fat around my gut. I then had to go on and explain why the Dr was wrong, and said..TRUST ME, he has no idea what he is talking about in this area. Just shake your head next time you go in if all you want to do is make him happy. Then when I train you, you do what I have you do. And just cause you do those exercises doesn't magically take the fat off. LOVE IT!

If it is only 1g per pill, take 10 a day, preferably more if you can afford it. Makesure it has a good amount of EPA and DHA per pill though so you aren't getting screwed that way. A good idea is to buy in bulk from a reputable online dealer. Cheap and good quality. I know a few good UK sites, US I only know trueprotein.com and I'm pretty sure there fish oil will be excellent as I hear nothing but good things about them.

His 2 pills a day is fine, and with fish during the week he is all good. You dont need 10g per day from a supp and I spoke about this one time. You sure dont need more than 10g either.

Not sure your point in that high amount.

i think you should research it the best you can, because after all, we only get one liver in this lifetime, and you must have a functioning liver to live.

you can freggin overdose and destroy your liver on tylenol.

Okay, I hope you are open minded then. Cause I am about to prove you wrong :D

For anyone who doesn't know who Charles Poliquin is, he is someone who knows more than anyone on this board about nutrition ala weight training.

http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do?id=1371812

READ THAT ARTICLE-In particular the bit about "The single best supplement" two thirds down the page. I'm sorry Omen but nothing you will say can go against that.

Here is a very important extract:

"Anyone who wants to put on muscle and lose fat should be on 30-45 grams of fish oil per day. That's just three tablespoons of fish oil. It would be a pain in the ass with capsules though because that's around 45 capsules per day, but it's easy with a straight oil."

Over and out,

Quagmire

P.s.-And yes you could maybe eat a lot of fish and it could work, but for people such as myself who detest fish it is very convenient getting it in supps.

all the *****ing about doctors who don't know what they're talking about aside (most of it accurate)... it's easy to see if your liver is out of whack if/when you get bloodwork done with a routine physical.

I didn't even know they sell it in liquid form. Anyone know of a good brand or where I can get from? I'll take his advice.

It sure is confusing when this same information came from Poliquin:

Omega 3 Fatty Acids from pharmaceutical grade fish oils are the most valuable supplement you can take. The subject should take 15g/day for two weeks if deficient, then reduce the dosage to 5g/day indefinitely after that. Fish oils will help burn fat and prevent fat gain. They improve serotonin levels (mood), make it easier to move nutrients in and out of cell walls, reduce joint inflammation, decrease the amount of sugar your body will absorb, improves blood pressure and decrease insulin output when taken with a meal.

I think in that one he's talking about grams of omega-3 fatty acids, not grams of fish oil.
what do you think a gram of fish oil is loaded with ??

Does 3 tablespoons instead, ease your troubled mind?
I don't care what you do, my mind is at ease...nobody takes that much fish on a daily basis. Your not an eskimo living an eskimo lifestyle so quit trying to be one.

Wow, you really are an obnoxious ****ing retard. There's a huge difference between 5g of omega-3 fatty acids and 5g of fish oil. Fish oil is not 100% omega-3 fatty acids.

Problem with all that animal protein is that it creates blood acidosis - which then leaches calcium out from your bones to restore its normal 7.4 pH. This can increase osteoporosis and kidney stone risks.

So at the very least, you need to be balancing all that meat out with a lot of alkalizing leafy greens. Something that most bodybuilders are totally ignorant of and never do.
