I recently discovered that one of the best imaginable wingman I could desire is one strapped to my back, gently resting it's weight on my hips.

I recently had to go to Frankfurt for my work. After some deliberation with my employer, I managed to get an extra day in Frankfurt without work and still got all my expenses covered. Best alteration: I didn't sleep in a hotel but a hostel, which was much cheaper, but also a lot easier to meet people.

So anyway, after the first day of work, I was knackered, so after my boss paid for my dinner I went back to the hostel and instead of going to bed directly, I got myself a cup of tea and opened up a cute girl in there. It just went by the book. She wanted me to buy her a drink, I made her buy me one instead, and within 15 minutes, I was all over her. At some point I even picked her up and carried her around the lounge, forcing her to sing with a few people making live music, got me another beer.

I know backpacks are useful wingmen in a situation where a girl is sitting down, minding her own business. You walk by, stop right by her and start shuffling through your backpack like you're looking for something, then eventually you sit down next to her and look over at her and mebbe ask her a question. The backpack makes it look like you just "happen" to sit there.

I was more referring to a travel backpack, the ones that have a weight distribution frame in them and can hold like 65 litres of stuff. But such regular rucksack could be used like you described.

Picking up people in a hostel is pretty easy I've noticed. Everyone has his guard down because everyone is out there to have a great time, meet new people. I tend to save my money and then book a train/plane ticket everyone few months, throw some clothing in my backpack and travel.

Picking up locals is easy. Wear backpack, walk up to hot girl, "Hey, I'm here for a few days to have a good time, what would you advice me to see?". You can have her tell about the city and in the meantime you can run your game on her.

There was an article recently in the paper here that the rates of some STDs were increasing as a result of backpackers bringing them over.

We have a great bar here that's primarily backpackers, and if you're after an easy lay, that's the place to go. Wrap up well, have a shower afterwards, and book a visit to the STD clinic once you're finished...
