7 rules for texting girls

Well the thing is, I only do "long drawn out conversations" in person. There's nothing worse than sitting there with a phone pressed to my ear as some girl drones on about her week. Frankly, I rarely even spent lots of time talking on the phone to my "serious" girlfriends.
I couldn't agree more, it's just ashame you jump to conclusions. It's not a peacock feather showing contest. I never advocated spending 30 minutes listening to a woman on the phone.

Instead of texting a woman "hey wanna go out tonight?", I prefer to phone and ask her, it shows I have confidence and it shows I have balls. Texting women like that is a cop out in my book. It's what 16 year olds do.

Not jumping to conclusions. You said that text isn't the place for drawn out conversations, which alludes to you thinking that phone is the place for that. (In my mind, anyway. Perhaps not in reality)

And I don't see texting as a cop out. I work from 9-7 all five days of the week. When I come home, all I want to do is: gym, guitar, dinner. I don't want to entertain or impress. I just want to relax. Hence the texting.

It's easy to say over the internet, but I don't think any woman who gives me her number is left with the impression that I "lack balls" by texting her. Ya know? "I thought Iceberg was cool until he texted me instead of calling." Can't envision that.

But hey, you're entitled to your opinion. Just expressing mine.

World's most annoying text, sent after not receiving an immediate reply to a previous text:

HELLOOOO??????? r u still there???

I hate that message, women hate it, everyone does. And yet I have seen it a lot. Don't be that guy.

That's one way to kill attraction almost immediately.

Haha. If your sending this text to females, I think you've got more to worry about when it comes to the opposite sex then just texting.

I've sent this text to my buddy's though as a joke about 30 seconds after sending the first one.

And smiley faces are gay. Very gay. Sounds like something a ***** High Schooler would do to make sure the girl didn't "think" the wrong thing from the message.

Actually, like the saying goes "bi*ches love smiley faces"

"Last night was amazing"

is not as fantastic as

"Last night was amazing ;) "

Furthermore, the emoticons convey different forms of interpretation

"Today was a terrible day :(" - makes you sound like a whiney girl

"Today was a terrible day :p " - makes it sound like you still had fun regardless

"Today was a terrible day  " - clearly you are conveying sarcasm (whether positive or negative)

Therefore, emoticons, are essential in some situations, especially when flirting!
No. They're not essential. They're gay. People have been communicating for centuries without emoticons and getting along just fine. Now all of a sudden some guy is scared that a girl won't know he's happy without putting a cute little face in his message to her.

Exactly what I'm talking about! It sounds like something a women would do. I better add a smiley face, or who knows what she may think? To hell with that thinking! Face the facts, texting a girl isn't the way to go anyways, so why worry about the way she "takes" it.

Call her on the phone and show her your a man that knows what he wants! Not ***** foot around with texting and GAY smiley faces.

Flirting through text message? Again, sounds like something a women would do. Dude, you do the flirting in person. You set up the date in a timely manner, ON THE PHONE, then do the flirting on the date.

Oh, no it's gaaay! Text few, text loose, and if you want to put smilies you can damn well do so.

See how much better sarcasm works with an emoticon?

This whole thread and the replies are ridiculous,

There are no set rules for texting. The common things to remember are:

-Convey emotion
-Exaggerate experience
-Multi-thread
-Know the power of not responding
-Text only when you're in a happy mood, not lonely or desperate
-Follow questions with a playful thread
-Get to the POINT
-Have fun!

When you text, you do not need to text for a response or reply to questions which are not conducive to the overall meet/pick up. Q&A are no no's.

This is a ridiculous thread. I've literally asked a question which was condusive to meeting up, she hadn't replied to it and was playing hard to get, and I continued with around 5-6 "?'' one after the other, after that, eventually she asked me to call her, and we were on the phone for an hour.

There is no rules or methods, it should be straightforward.

Back in the 1980s, smileys were geeky. Now they're gay?

I use them to convey things like sarcasm or to emphasize something. I don't send them in every message. I just use them when she can't see my facial expression nor hear my voice tone. Use them as tools, not as filler.

Don't send smilely faces? What if I'm a friendly/flirty guy?

Don't textback immediately? What if I'm a fast texter?

Always be the one to end the text convo? What if she has to suddenly leave(stop texting)?...does it mean I'm screwed?!?! OH NO I BROKE RULE #7, what now!?!

Or if I spell a word wrong..then all hope is lost? Or may b i should jus txt her da way i wnt 2, cuz i'm tht kewl dawg!

Don't send two messages in a row? ...Huh?

......Okay I'm being light weight silly but all jokes aside and no dis-respect man but is this advice serious? Cmon some of you guys just over anaylze too much. Tht's EXCALTY how you messed up. As long as your truely confident in yourself, just and talk to her. Everything will take care of itself from there. And nobody does #1. We all txt for a reason broham. Some reasons are more signifcant than others of course.

There's far too many rules in the game I reckon, on one hand we are taught that is it okay to make mistakes and on the other we are told that we should abide by a million and one different rules.

I don't text because I find it easier to just give the girl a quick phone call to make plans and stuff. What I can to say a girl in one minute phone call would take me two or three different texts. I can't be bothered to text because I am too lazy and plus I think phoning a girl shows more confidence.

As for emoticons and stuff, I don't think a girl who is interested in you will care if you use them or not. Just like I don't think a girl who is interested in you will care much if you call or text her.

This thread is just a case (and I'm guilty of it too) of applying rules anywhere and everywhere.
