What's the problem I was just saying hi, lol? If I'm interrupting this moment of epiphany (or grown folks time) I'ill just come back later, lol. All I can say is that I hope at 50 I have someone I can home to and they are still happy to see me.
Get a dog.

I've been reading Roman and Greek mythology. Zeus (Jupiter) was probably modeled on a guy in his prime (these days, that can easily in the 50's). At 50, if you've taken any kind of care of yourself (no smoking, prudence in boozing, and a work life where you have some autonomy or authority), you'll be building toward a peak in your 50's, probably at 62-65.

I'm stronger now than ever, and have discovered that I can intimidate younger guys because I don't give a sh-t about what my status is vis-a-vis them. I know who I am and what I can do. One example was at a Cake concert this summer, when a twenty-something dude tried to show off in front of his girlfriend, and take my little piece of ground in the front row. I knew I had been here before him, and didn't give in to his whining. Fortunately, his gf understood what he was up against, and pulled him away.

You've got several good years ahead, brother.

All the OG playas are in their 50s now anyways.. I really don't think its that bad as long as you keep yourself in shape and live like you are 30. There are a large number loser 50 year olds out there who let themselves go and are married to fatties...

I agree that you can keep your strength pretty easily, or even increase it. It's more the endurance, flexibility, and healing ability that goes.

I found getting older to be very liberating. Like you say, you don't really care about your status anymore. At least not compared to a guy in his 20s who is generally very sensitive to how he is viewed and what his standing is. I first noticed this when I turned thiry. I thought was "well, i'm old now, pressure's off". When you're in your 20s you're expected to be "hot".

Believe it or not, I had never heard of Cake until that night. I have a season ticket to a music series that they played at. Can't say I was overly impressed.

at 50 i am much wiser, and not as much in a hurry to "impress' or "prove myself". Yeah i get the young wise a$$es who make comments, and i cut them slack (even though i know I can make many of em eat their teeth if I wanted to). The women in their thirties seem to enjoy the confidence a well preserved 50 yr old exhudes. just dont try to act 30... be cool and confident in yourself.
Most of my 30yr old friends enjoy me, they know my motto re women: There are tons of em, enough for everyone. focus on THEM, not each other

Lol, I don't think I've ever seen a guy on this forum say "Yeah, I'm 50 and I look every day of it". But there's an emphasis on staying in shape here so that could explain some of it.

I agree you shouldn't try to act like your 30. The nice thing about it is that if things are going well (the chicks are digging you), then you're the cool older guy. If things aren't going so well, then you can just slough it off and be aloof "Hey, I'm 50, I'm above this game anyway. I'm not even a participant".

Turned 40 this year,
Couple observations: I'm working too hard and not enjoying life as much. Interpersonal stuff is easier. Staying in shape is still easy, but I credit genetics and food/ gym for that. Women are easier to read. It is true, women I went to school with don't look half as good as I do.

My 20-year high school reunion is this year. Through Facebook, I've spotted a couple of broads who were smokin' hot, but have since turned to sh!t.

I, on the opposite hand, have grown strongly. In every way.

I was thinking about that this morning. There was an old Clint Eastwood movie on TV (Bronco Billy). The leading lady was Sandra Locke.

I was thinking about all the great actors who have such long careers. Clint Eastwood is still a household name today, and most recently made "Gran Torino", a very good film. The dude is 80 years old. Most leading actresses are there (at least partly) for eye candy. So their careers are generally much shorter, as they are quickly replaced with another young looker. Sandra Locke was actually 33 at the time.

For all the advantages women may have when they are younger, in the long run you're better off being a guy.

Originally I wanted to retire by 55 but with the increasing cost of health care and the stock market drops I probably won't be comfortable with that.
But health care will not be an issue once the Health Care Reform exchange and subsidies come into being in 2014. Perhaps you could retire then?

It's possible I may get a better group rate somehow, but in no way do I believe that "health care will not be an issue".
