Hey all,

The above link has an in depth explanation and analysis of the discovery of a 3trillion barrel oil reserve found 1,000feet below the Colorado Rocky's. It is in the form of shale oil, and US companies say they can get it out for as little as $10 a barrel when the current rate is $70 a barrel. The reserve will make the USA the single largest oil producing nation in the world, dwarfing all other nations put together by a factor of 4 to 1.

Here is a quote from the article with the official estimates -

"
* 8-times as much oil as Saudi Arabia
* 18-times as much oil as Iraq
* 21-times as much oil as Kuwait
* 22-times as much oil as Iran
* 500-times as much oil as Yemen "

I wonder what all of you may think in regards to this discovery as something like this will completely change the face of the USA, its foreign policy, military policy, economics etc.

Just take a second and think about the ramifications of it all - I aint no professional but I do understand how BIG this could be -

In regards to foreign poilicy, they could get the F@#K out of the Middle East once and for all. Asia too for that matter.

In regards to economics - they could pay off their deficit quiickly.

In regards to the military - they could and very likely will fund the military to a point where they will become totally unbeatable and supremely sofisticated beyond our wildest dreams.

This all has an enormous down side as many of you will understand - they will and I stress will, put themselves in a position to take over the world with their unlimited funds which will become available to them. Dont think for a second that there wont be spy satellites everywhere watching your every move, we might even get a base on the moon or even Mars, purely speculative of course but with unlimited funds comes unlimited military and economic power as does unlimited arrogance!

This could become the turning point in human history as we know it, we could possibly all prosper or on the other extreme, we could find ourselves running from a fully automated spy satellite and robotic droid planes such as "Skynet" from Terminator movie in an unprecedented expansion of their totalitarian one world government dictatorship.

why wasn't this reported anywhere else?

I'm not saying there isn't oil in Colorado, just that that website doesn't look very reliable and I wouldn't trust much of what it says.

That was a good USA today article.

A RAND Corp. study last year for the Energy Department said that "the prospects for oil shale development are uncertain," though new technology could make it competitive with conventional oil. Producing 3 million barrels a day — about 15% of U.S. consumption — "is probably more than 30 years into the future," the study said.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

Ouch, looks like we won't be tapping any of U.S. Oil anytime soon then, huh.

No, I just read the original article I found. The other user wanted to know if there were other sources, so I googled one and found one by USA Today.

You've got to read both sides of the story in the future.

Always be wary of people who are trying to sell you something. All evidence can be mashed into whatever BS you want it to look like.

I like how the guys website looks EXACTLY like all of the crap seduction advice ebooks. Makes me wonder if they all use the same template.

Yeah I realise that now man. Sorry...

Haha, yeah you're right, it does look like a lot of the seduction advice sites, the get rich quick sites, etc...

Tell her a little about yourself, but not too much. Maintain some mystery. Give her something to think about and wonder about when she's at home.

i don't get it.
there is a huge bunch of oil under the rockies and we cant get it because why exactly?

or is it a fake? or is it just too much for a nation that traveled to the moon 37 years ago to dig 300m deep and get that stuff out?

Well from what I can tell, they are only in the research stage. The number is only an estimate. The OP quote is a sham, the numbers are skewed, and comparative only to known sources and contains no true information, purely speculation.

There are two processes that I've heard of to get the oil out of the rock. They can squeeze it out at a great price, or they can cook it out, at a lesser price, but with greater damage done to the environment. Cooking the rocks, they want to send enormous heaters underground and boil the fvck out of the rocks, than drill as usual for the oil. In the process of creating the energy for the heaters they will have to construct an energy source larger than anything in Colorado.

We'll probably have some alternative sources of propulsion well into the pipeline by then.

This was a good laugh for me, so I reject your lame apology and say thanks for the laugh. This is the internet, you didn't hurt my feelings.

You know the US will use up all the oil in the Middle East first, and then tap that sh1t. Strategically, it makes sense. If we control the only huge oil source left in the world, guess who makes all the rules from now on?

America will then be free to get gas at 33 cents a gallon like Venezuela, and charge the rest of the world 10 bucks a gallon to run their cars. Complete world domination.

According to the USA Today article, "the energy industry is mobilizing to unlock the secret of oil shale", but as of yet "no one has been able to develop oil shale on a commercially sustainable basis."

Good discussion, let's just be sure not to let it go political. Thanks much.

The oil is integrated inside the rock. It's not just hiding beneath it way down there. The problems with extracting it is the amount of energy it takes to heat up these rocks to seperate the oil from it, and possibly ruining the groundwater by contaminating it with oil. Another big problem is the amount of water needed in the extracting process, which Colorado has very little of. So the oil is there and plentiful, but extracting it is very inefficient and the entire process would accelerate global warming even more.

Israel sees shale replacing oil
By LEAH KRAUSS
UPI Energy Correspondent

HAIFA, Israel, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- The Israeli process for producing energy from oil shale will cut its oil imports by one-third, and will serve as a guide for other countries with oil shale deposits, according to one company.

A.F.S.K. Hom Tov presented its oil shale processing method on Tuesday, outside Haifa and just down the street from one of the country's two oil refinery facilities.

"Because the patents for this process belong to (the company), Israel is the most advanced in the world in the effort to create energy from oil shale," Moshe Shahal, a Hom Tov legal representative and a former Israeli energy minister, told United Press International.

Shahal estimated that the company's Negev Desert facility would begin full-scale production in three to four years, while other countries with oil shale deposits will need five to six years to reach production.

Oil shale is limestone rock that contains hydrocarbons, or fossil fuels -- about 20 percent of the amount of energy found in coal. Using the rock as a raw material and coating it with bitumen, a residue of the crude oil refining process, the company can produce natural gas, fuel, electricity, or a combination of the three.

Older technologies squeezed the hydrocarbon material out of the rock, with extremely high pressure and at high temperatures.

According to Professor Ze'ev Aizenshtat, an oil shale expert, the Hom Tov process is more environmentally friendly than other methods of converting oil shale into energy. It also allows for more flexibility in the kind of fuel produced, produces less waste and operates at lower temperatures than other methods.

Though the production process may be more environmentally friendly, the end product is still a fossil fuel, similar in quality to a high-grade diesel when in liquid form.

Israel's shale is low-quality, however -- its "caloric value" is only about 15 percent, while shale in other countries yields 20 percent, according to a report in BusinessWeek earlier this year. As a result, more Israeli shale is needed to produce the same amount of fuel.

Hom Tov isn't worried, however. "This is a much lighter (substance) than what gradually comes out of an oil field," Aizenshtat told UPI, as Hom Tov company owners Israel Feldman and Shimon Kazansky posed for photographs with their fingers dipped in a plastic pitcher of the stuff.

Because fewer refining processes are necessary with oil shale than with crude oil, the final product is a higher quality fuel at a lower price, Aizenshtat said.

The company estimates it will consume 6 million tons of oil shale and 2 million tons of refinery waste each year, for an annual production of 3 million tons of product.

It would cost about $17 to produce a barrel of synthetic oil at the Hom Tov facility, meaning giant profit margins in a world of $45 to $60 per barrel crude. Yearly earnings are forecasted to be between $159 million and $350 million, Shahal said.

Israel has 15 billion tons of oil shale reserves. Jordan, on the other hand, has about 25 billion tons, and the oil shale in Jordan is of higher quality. Shahal met with Jordanian Energy Minister Azmi Khreisat earlier this year, to discuss setting up a plant there.

The United States also has a giant reserve, mostly in Colorado, and Hom Tov sees potential for its patented process there.

The process, which Feldman and Kazansky developed in the mid-1990s, has lately attracted some high-powered investors, including Ofer Glazer -- the third husband of Israel's richest resident, billionaire Carnival Cruise heiress Shari Arison.

"It's a kind of dream" to invest in Hom Tov, Glazer told UPI. "It's the type of investment where Israel needs the product, and it creates jobs."

Glazer added that it will be good for Israel not to be dependent on "external sources" for its energy needs, saying that "those countries aren't exactly friendly (to Israel.)"
