3 day fast: metabolic shutdown?

For the next three days, I plan to only drink water. Lots of water. Then, starting Sunday Oct 9th, I will keep a food journal of everything that I eat. I want to get my diet 'handled'. I feel that it is necessary to do the fast to clean out my system.

In the past, I have ingested too much: coffee, coke, fast food, beer, etc. I plan on stopping cold turkey.

Don't worry about motivation: will-power is my middle name. I am currently preparing recipes, buying food, doing extensive research on diet to feed athletes, and have almost finished reading Tom Venuto's "Burn the fat, Feed the Muscle" (highly recommended)

My only concern is: will this 3-day-fast slow my metabolism down too much? What are the consequences? Is it worth it?

What's 3 days of no food compared to a lifetime future of eating well?

It won't matter long term.

I wasn't talking about the will power for the fast. I was talking about the will power to maintain the healthy diet. It is stupid to stick to something that nobody was saying would be beneficial. That is why I was asking: is this worth it? I did some googling for fasting, and it seems pretty new-age and not scientifically proven. Hence the name in the title. I was ASKING if it is needed.

Excuses excuses man, you made yourself look stupid. We all know that you tried the fast.

THE TITLE OF THE THREAD HAS A QUESTION MARK IN IT. It was an INQUIRY. I asked in the originial post "is it worth it?" (to fast)

NOBODY on this thread has said that it is worth it. I did my own research as well, and determined that it had no proven scientific value.

If I was trying to impress people, I would just have lied and said that I fasted for 10 days. (really, how would you know?)

One more time, for those of you who probably don't score very well on reading comprehension tests:

Will Power= for the healthy diet.

Fast?=was an inquiry.

Because I thought that it was a good way to 'detox' your system. I found no evidence that this occurs. I DID find some things saying it can be harmful: eg. Your bowel muscles weaken if not used for a for even a short period of time; your body thinks that you are in a famine and slows your metabolism down (hence the title of this thread), etc.

To see differing points of view, experiences, or knowledge that people had of fasting. This IS a DISCUSSION board isn't it? I did most of the research in the last few days, because nobody else was contributing anything useful to this thread. (That is not entirely true. A few of you did say that fasting was in fact unnecessary, and even unhealthy. That would just solidify my arguement on why I decided against it.)

Peace and Quiet

If you currently have too many women chasing you, calling you, harassing you, knocking on your door at 2 o'clock in the morning... then I have the simple solution for you.

Just read my free ebook 22 Rules for Massive Success With Women and do the opposite of what I recommend.

This will quickly drive all women away from you.

And you will be able to relax and to live your life in peace and quiet.

As posted above, because I thought it would help clear out, or detox, my body. Based on my research in the last few days, I realize that this doesn't really happen. Old wives tale. Not scientfically proven. Therefore, no point to continue.

It still just sounds like a stupid excuse to me.
I see that you have played this game before...
