    AI will NOT replace Artists

At least, I hope not. I could be wrong. The release of Midjourney, DALL-E 2, Stable Diffusion, and other similar programs, have made a big splash in the art community, with some artists reasonably concerned that it signifies the end of commercial art careers. As someone on Twitter said, “If...

Immersion: Learning a Foreign Language by Yourself

It's better to buy a paper dictionary than download a PDF or eBook. Digital books are more convenient but science studies show you remember more with physical books. Apps have distractions and I would think there's probably something about the tactile experience of books. You have a better...

Immersion: Learning a Foreign Language by Yourself

At the beginning of the year, I bought a frequency dictionary with the 5,000 most common words. I had been studying from a list of 600 most common words and had gotten through about 500 words before I upgraded to the frequency dictionary. I estimate that if about half of the 500 words from the...

No.. vaping can NOT "deliver toxic metals like nickel and lead into your lungs." (No, that's not metal *long pause* in your lungs)

Some time last year I saw an anti-vaping commercial which claimed that a risk of vaping is heavy metal poisoning. It turned out that the producers of the commercial applied an environmental standard for if every single breath you took throughout your entire day was vaping.

Immersion: Learning a Foreign Language by Yourself

Two quotes I would like to share: “It is not at all the case that the more linguistically simple an item is, the earlier it is acquired. Some very “simple” rules may be among the last to be acquired.” – Stephen Krashen, 1982 “Instruction does not appear to influence the order of development...

    Video editing software

I recommend Davinci Resolve. It's free, arguably has the best tools for color grading, and comes with Fusion for compositing where After Effects would normally be used. Some advanced features are paid, but it's still cheaper than an Adobe subscription.

What u doing these days with your free time?

3D modeling, with an emphasis on environment art and architectural visualization. It's a very diverse field of skills which includes sculpting, drawing, painting, and animation. It's also a nice way to make a little extra money on the side with selling 3D models. I would recommend it to anyone...

Immersion: Learning a Foreign Language by Yourself

@MatureDJ I will definitely check the movie! I found a copy of it, which I'm downloading now, so I will watch. One great thing about learning a language is going through the history of cinema all over again. And yeah, I don't plan on traversing Africa. I've been invited by some friends of...

Immersion: Learning a Foreign Language by Yourself

Thank you for the kind words, and your welcome! I know somewhere between 500-600 words, which places me around the end of A1 and the beginning of A2. It's not many words for getting close to two years, because the first year was focused on reading / vocabulary and the second year was focused on...

Immersion: Learning a Foreign Language by Yourself

Hey Mike! The only products that I have is a Larousse paper dictionary, and also French-English Translator app on my Android phone. My approach, so far, which has focused on vocabulary, has simply been to study from a list of the most common words and watch lots of Youtube. With so much...

Immersion: Learning a Foreign Language by Yourself

I just found out that French might actually need 2,000 most common words to reach 90% comprehension. This brings up an issue that it’s tricky to know how many words are really needed to reach a level of comprehension, because there are different ways of counting. There are words and word...

Immersion: Learning a Foreign Language by Yourself

For the past 19 months, I’ve been learning French. It’s not the first time I’ve tried to learn French, and French is not the first language that I’ve tried to learn, but it’s the first time with real progress being made. Just thought I would share some things which I've learned... Learning vs...

    3D Modeling / Rendering / Compositing / Animation

Don’t use a laptop for rendering. Most laptops are just not designed for very heavy hot workloads for long periods of time. While rendering is possible with mobile workstations, it has short battery life because of intense power consumption and you can always get more machine for your money with...

    3D Modeling / Rendering / Compositing / Animation

PHOTOBASHING People often assume that using photos is easy and some think it’s “cheating.” There’s no “cheating” in art (other than plagiarism) and photobashing is standard practice in commercial art to quickly develop concept art in hours rather than a month for a painting. It’s hard – not as...

    3D Modeling / Rendering / Compositing / Animation

This post has been in my head for a very long time. There are four core skills to being a 3D artist: photography, drawing, painting, and coding/mathematics. You learn so much from photography, from composition to the science of light. Understanding camera settings and lenses is necessary when...

Magick or The Western Esoteric tradition.

“What was more disturbing was that he never opened his mouth to speak to me. When my eyes locked with his he spoke telepathically. Now, you may scoff and think this bullsh!t, and I don't care. I know what happened.” Self-deception is a very powerful thing. It’s easier to fool someone than to...
